My brothers are 10 years younger than me, and they have played my nes for most of their life, and because of this they know who for example master higgins is.

Nobody else their age ive met does, and it makes the panda sad.

hey im 12 and i know full well who earth worm jim and dizzy are. it may be so that the earo the acrobats are fading but some 12 year olds still love the old games. mega man and super mario world are some of my favourite games of all time. but i dont like mario 3. at least the allstars version. i though the controls were sluggish

Yes of course there are some younger folks who still love the oldies and classics, but they are kind of a dying breed.
Didnt mean to generalize like that :

Holy crap that was impressive. Also I feel very sorry for sonic. Thankfully I own a dreamcast and sonic adventure 1 & 2.

I'm sure you meant it as a gag, TGO, but...Kirby?  As much as I love the pink powderpuff, why the hell would he live on if even Mario met his last curtain call?

that mother ****** will never die because he is such a easy to alter character. the reason mario and zelda still exists and sonic is fading is the mascots that are not desinged to be mascots are the ones that live on becuase they are not designed for the time but for every time. the only exeption is kirby becuase nintendo got that simple is easyer to remember and there for more likely to last

I get what you're saying, but I have to disagree.  I can see how Kirby can be molded into almost anything in future games (literally and figuratively speaking), but he is hardly any more timeless of a character than Mario, Link, Samus, or even that sadly bastardized blue hedgehog.  Kirby hasn't jumped the leaps and bounds that Mario, Link, Samus, and others have.  Take the the transition from the SNES days to the 3D N64 shift, for instance.  The other big N mascots reinvented themselves in such milestone ways since that critical time, but Kirby in particular hasn't evolved much beyond his Smash Bros appearances.

In any case, I'm totally overthinking the Overthinker here, and I know someone else has got a series with that going on already, so I'm droppin' this one here.
