Greatest episode so far, says some things certain people don't wanna hear but for so much of it I LOL'd - as it was VERY FUNNY cos it's VERY TRUE! Says all the things my slightly amateur blog would struggle to say, and by Jesus is there some good, easy-to-follow advice in there. So if a crippled Irishman can follow this as a guide anybody can. Cheers Bob!

I disagree beware of false prophets

Why on earth would you ever talk diet and lifestyle tips from the real life ****in comic book guy, "join a gym" he looks like he's allergic to treadmills.

I used to like game over thinker but now i have a firm dislike for anyone who feels that they need voice there increasingly inane point on such a beautiful and intrinsic invention should be wasted on praise videos from fat middle aged socially retarded american's who cant get over being a kid but wont admit it so it manifest itself into playing old games and having a hissy fit cause games aren't made for his generation and he is grown out the target audience.

Your opinions dont matter not even mine there just opinions that will never be proven to be the definitive answer so my advice to you all is re evaluate your selfs.

So telling gamers to become more well-rounded people is a BAD message?  Yeah, he's overweight... does that automatically mean that he doesn't practice what he preaches?

Telling gamers to put down the mouse, or controller.. and pick up a book is also not something worth saying?

Yeah, you may call it inane, but you'd be surprised at how many people actually need to hear this ****.   Bob is an intelligent man, and he tells it like it is.   I don't always agree with his finer points, but his overall message is ALWAYS sound.

Agreed. Perhaps he saw the errors of his ways after already getting overweight, too :P Losing weight can be pretty tough.

He's fat: Fatness and health aren't entirely connected. Some people just end up being bigger than others no matter what their diet and exercise, end of story. Even then, he's in the process of losing weight if he wasn't.

Your other insults are so ridiculously false (and you know they are) that I'd be stupid to even bother telling you why they're wrong (besides, you know why they're wrong anyway.)

My guess is that Bob was describing YOU in this video more often than not, and you're getting defensive about it. But since you know saying "being that kind of gamer isn't a bad thing!" would make you a liar and look like an idiot, you decided to say "he's childish and retarded" which would make you not look like an idiot, even though it'd still make you a liar.

My other guess is that you're just mad about something and need to vent.

My final guess is that you're trying to see how easy it is to lie and insult on the internet and see how people respond. Like, make a retarded message then watch people make long-winded messages telling you why you are wrong. If that's the case, congratulations, you win!

"Fatness and health aren't entirely connected"

While that may be true, any blind person could see that Bob's not exactly fit.  At all.  By any definition.

Contrast with me.  In February of this year, I weighed 278 pounds.  Yeah.  I started biking and dieting and lost more than SIXTY pounds.  Not only that, but I'm able to bike for hours on end at more than 20 mph.  I still have a few extra pounds, and according to my BMI (bogus stat that it is), I'm still overweight, but I'm also fit by nearly any definition.

Bob, on the other hand, is still fat.

To make a video telling people to exercise when you're clearly not doing a damn thing about your own health is repulsively hypocritical.  I'm not ashamed to say that I look down on people like Bob because I've actually DONE something about my weight, not just talked about it.  I know what it's like to be fat and I know what it's like to have to work to be thin.  It's not easy, but you do what you have to.  If you don't, you're just a fat, lazy slob with a big mouth.  And yes, I do mean lazy.  "I don't have the time" is a BS cop-out.  Suck it up and get it done or you don't have room to talk to others about fitness.

If the messenger doesn't listen to the message, it becomes a lot harder to stomach. MovieBlob up there is probably not so self deluding as to think he's in good shape (though I wouldn't be suprised if he was), and yet appears to feel its okay to not do some self improvement before lecturinbg us like we're ******* 6 year olds.

It is STILL a good message with good intentions. If a CRACKHEAD tried to lecture me on how bad it is to do CRACK I would likely believe him actually. A good percentage of the gamers he is "lecturing" to behave like they ARE 6 years old, these are the one's who give us all the bad rep that is the point.

hohohohoho....

hehehehehe.... ..... ....

bwaHAHAHAHA!!!

Oh wait your serious aren't you ?!?

The advise this guy gave wasn't opinion, it wasn't a rant, nor is it a
prophecy, its COMMON SENSE Albeit eloquently addressed to a target
audience that he is apart of.

If anything he is more relational because he is not so fit. Look, Hes
not saying you should look like brad pit, or have abs like him, hes
saying stop being FREAKING SLOBS! I have an old friend that had 2 year
old chicken bones under his bed and a sea of trash in his room. The guy
just  wants to quill that type of indecency in this gaming culture.

Its FUNNY: The mere fact of you mentioning his weight tells me you
didn't even pay attention to his tongue-in-cheek humor when he flashed
across the screen "don't say anything about taking health advise from
an over weight man".

You dont have to be musular or skinny to be in decent shape. I have
such a high motablisim that anything i eat just dispaears but i still
find it good advise to cut down on some foods and RED Bulls as it  can
mess with other things like your energy, heart rate, and teeth not just
your belly.

This guy made PERFECT sense! He basically encouraged gamers to read,
now something(anything) about politics besides who got kicked out of
activision studios, get up and walk around everyone in a while and
interact with others on a decent level. The fact that sooooo many kids
on XBox Live like to drop the N bomb, call 20 year olds ****, and
generally act like billy bad ass is in itself an inversion of what they
would really be like in real life.

Think about it....how bad would you get your ass kicked if you talked
all that smack to the target in audience in real life? Be it an older
male who's been through puberty (read has developed muscles and penis
hair), any minority group known to kick un-socialable suburban white
kids ***** for being dumb, or just find that WRONG guy to mess with.
Not to mention the lack of interaction with ....gulp...member of the
opposite sex.

He was just telling it like it is. Snacks =bad/ treat others like you'd
treat yourself/ and STOP being a DOUCHE is NOT OPINION. Its just good
practice.

BTW: I played in arcades too when i was a kid and YES it was all that.
Nothing compared to the first time i put my quarter up to play SF2 back
in the early 90s. I don't give a **** what you say...you can keep that
over hyped MW2 crap in your generation of gaming!

This coming from a guy who's name is King of the Nether Realm, from fudge killers GB, and claims to be in his early forties. Preteen name and location with an age that if you actually were that old, is pretty sad.

As to him giving advise, I'll take it if I believe he's right. If he's not following his own advise, why should that stop me from taking it and improving myself? It sounds more like you're coming up with an excuse to not do something you know is corrected just because the person who said it doesn't seem to be doing it also.

Bob is in his late twenties, and years away from a midlife crisis. The only point he was making about how social gaming used to be, is that the idiots on xbox live would probably be careful what they say if there was a chance of getting punched in the face for saying it. I'm twenty, I'm old enough to remember playing Golden Eye with more people than we had controllers. We learned to share, we learned how to be courteous even in victory, we had fun without insulting anyone.

The older gamers still play those games not because they don't want to let go, but because they're still fun to play. In ten years the current little brats will be saying how Halo is the best game ever, while the new little brats will be mocking them. I play COD and Halo and all the new stuff, but my older consoles are still in my living room, being played just as much. You don't have to grow out of everything.

My favorite argument he had was knowing other stuff besides games is important and I agree. It's nice to know what inspired aspects of games, like how Grace Holloway in Bio Shock 2 is possibly inspired by Nina Simone. And the 'High Priestess of Soul' was well before my time.

Uh, and by the way: Your whole point about games beeing just produced for a certain target audience..I totaly disagree on that!

I agree with everything you said in this video mr.TGO, and yes Atkinson can go **** himself, but when it comes down to all the offensive, for lack of a better word, behaviour of people on XBL, i haven't really encountered anything too bad, maybe a couple of F-Bombs here and there, but I mostly play Halo so I can't really say much...anyway this gets my 11 of the day.

Even if you haven't experienced the rascist trolling on Xbox live and online games, there is no denying it ios there. Like stated in the video, it is not only a problem because it makes us all look bad but also because it is wrong to treat fellow humans this way.
This video is great. It may be extreme and it does not apply to all gamers but the idea that there is a world outside of gaming is a key concept that i believe is being increasingly lost.

You hit the nail right on the head, moviebob! I was not the kind of guy who games 8 hours a day. But even if I was, I usually take the casual break involving reading and exercise, preferably with basic karate and all that stuff.

And as far as the gaming community in general, aside from the g1s here on SA, as far as I am concerned, we have been often stereotyped as low-lifes who think cussing=coolness.

I also have to say, compared with the guy who made the video on the first Submission Sunday, yours was much tolerable to listen, and understand perfectly. Kudos to you once again.

I disagree. Brians was a lot more calm, and while he was a tad less "opinionated" (and more like he felt more sure of himself), i'd rather listen to him telling his side of the story like a conversation than listening to a guy who acts like he's smarter than me make loud claims and say I have a problem because I don't like spending a ton of time watching earlier movies in history or reading a ton of authors, and using the f-bomb in a way sometimes comparable to people he's complaining about. Mind you I enjoy the videos and know that he puts them on for the sake of discussion and opinionation rather than everyone agreeing with him, but it's kinda...overboard.

When i started my Questing review series last year I was inspired by AVGN but I wanted to do it without the profanity and anger. My angle was, if I didn't like a game I was reviewing, I moved on to another. Since the MMOs I were reviewing were free, I'd lost nothing. I found that "voice" I used, worked well.

I tried my best in my video to seem neutral in my comments. IE, "this happened to me, and I don't want it to happen to you." Although, in this video his tone was "shape up, you are making the whole community look bad." and using a stronger tone was certainly needed.

It's interesting, TGO's submission actually does piss me off a bit, but not because of any of the subject matter. In truth, I agree with nearly everything he had to say. My complaint lies in his delivery.
Looking at "The Only Thing I Know", you can see that CirrusEpix deliberately tried to present his opinions in a friendly manner. This episode of TGO however, leaves a snide, over-authoritative taste in my mouth.

This has got to be your most eloquent episode ever. I'm definitely going to try taking this advice for my lifestyle. Also, I was born in 94, I've for a very long time hated having to miss the arcade scene, and hated that they died before I got the chance to play them. After this video, that's certainly made me angrier about that.

I never considered CC's to be an arcade either. It was when I was about 13 that I realized I had NEVER had fun there. It's really a lot like an MMO grind-fest. Constantly scraping the bottom of my token cup for tickets... to get worthless prizes. The only games there that are actual GAMES are the ones that DON'T give you any tickets, and even THEY pretty much suck.

Except Ski-ball. Ski-ball is awesome.

With an agenda to turn gamers into evolved human beings I think the tact here is wrong somehow. As Ghandi said, you have to be the change you wish to see in the world.

This episode will either pass by or followed on by some 'guilty movementing'. Maybe I'll be watching the 24/7 webcam of TGO eating mini carrots and reading 'The Idiot' next week.

Between this and the only thing I know, my bul**** filter overfloweth with crap. Thankfully I'm old enough to understand such concepts as the 'journalistic device'.

I don't like the GOT and I will not agree with everything he said (most of which does simply not apply to me, so I have no right to spill my hate all over it). He took real extreme examples of what a the worst case of gamer might be, to get as much content together as possible. Yet, I believe that somewhere out there you can find a gamer just like the one he describes - that's the sad truth. It's also true, that most of us gamers have no idea who that person is and why he tells us about her/him.
Well, yes, he is right and it has finally been a passable episode after a looooong period of consistent crap.

Still, it feels strange and implausible that he of all people tells us to do more sports and eat healthy food. He is right, but he does not come across very believable.

He's not saying he's perfect, but what he, and most gamer, should do. This don't apply to me too, I'm no hardcore gamer, but I'd like a change of attitude on online play. Man I remember when I was playing starcraft where most of the people where kind and all and now I log on MW2 (on PC) and I hear **** all the time. Far less than on XBL, but still enough to be a problem.

But, there is a ray of hope, some people saying luck at the beginning  of the game and lots saying good game at the end, not a lot, but it makes a difference.

I'm in agreement with most of what Bob said but I was thinking the same thing in hoping he starts following his own advice, PARTICULARLY when it comes to his diet.

PS to MovieBob
Bob, you used to cut back the swears a ton when you were exclusively posting stuff on Youtube. Now you drop the F-bomb as much as James Rolfe. The difference is James is acting when he does so whereas you're having a serious discussion and most of these episodes are about expressing your opinions and observations. Please remember who IS watching when you talk about being polite and courteous, all the while cussing like a sailor.

Same here you don't need to dop the F-bomb so much to get your point across.
While I must admit some of the advice he gives is good it seems this can be said about probably anything out there not just video games. It bothers me that people keep on talking about doing other things but in reality all of those things like doing sports, playing instruments, reading books, writing, can all be hobbies.

I speak for myself when I say this but if you really want to do one of these things for a living you gotta put your life on the line and risk things if you wanna become a professional athlete, gamer, musician, or writer you literally have to eat, breathe, and dream the thing you wanna be unless your a naturally good at it. The sad part is that there is people who don't want to realize that they actually suck in the one thing they actually love and have so much passion for.

And common he expects us to know politics isn't there a reason why we have school is like if I were to go outside and ask random people who these people are I bet the majority won't have a clue.

Yeah man, The cursing when talking about being polite... ALTHOUGH you're proving a point... Is NOT necessary. We're a gamer culture and most people on here respect that. Good video but it went downhill fast once you got into the F bombs.

The problems he decribed (even behaviour) could easily be in any other field, be it online blogs, articles etc. Whilst anonymity over XBL can bring out the worst in some people I (for example) can honestly say I've never been rude to anyone who hasnt been a dick to me first.

I think the point he made was, "so what if it happens everywhere else, we gamers can be better than that."

And yes, I agree with the f-bombs. Like Spielberg said concerning sharks bounding from the water - "the more you use it, the less the overall effect." I feel his frustration and passion and the need to be blunt, but use it sparingly.

Amen, Moviebob. I agree with everything
Due i have 1 comment about the behavoir part

It's not a gamer only problem, it's a worldwide problem now and days.
Not only online people act like that. I have some guys at school who act just like this and i know that it is like that worldwide aswell.
Alot of the youth are being huge dicks.
Ofcourse not everyone (like us, G1s) aren't like that.

I just hope douchebags online watch this and makes a bell ring in their heads. Due i doubt it, since that would mean that they HAVE a brain.

I agree with Clankio. It's not just on xbox live, ps3 or in some cases the nintendo wii, but just every day life in general too. SPecially people in my town I hear the F bomb dropped a lot. Even little kids who I want to slap their mouths for cussing or being rude are getting close to just saying the F bomb when ever they want. THe only reason stopping parents (and this is just a theory) is people the government threatening to take away the child because of treating spanking their child or giving the child a good slap on the mouth is considered bad parenting and or abusive child care.

I say, it's only if the child deserves the spank or swat on the mouth because I have seen children give out unacceptable behavior and deserve the spanking with the old fashioned paddle, hand, flay swatter or worse of all the belt.

Amen. I come from the genation of kids where if you cursed or lied or acted like a total snot, your parents gave you a wallop. Hands, belts, switches... hell. When we got old enough, there were times my mom hit us with whatever was in her hand at the time (reasonably, of course). And looking back... I'm very glad she did.

Parents these days are more scared of their kids. It should be the other way around! Kids need to be taught at a young age that certain things are not tolerated in polite society and the gaming industry is no different.
