The video-gaming community has problems. A LOT of problems. The OverThinker has some ideas about what they are and what can be done about them... and some of it isn't pretty.

Why on earth would you ever talk diet and lifestyle tips from the real life ****in comic book guy, "join a gym" he looks like he's allergic to treadmills.
I used to like game over thinker but now i have a firm dislike for anyone who feels that they need voice there increasingly inane point on such a beautiful and intrinsic invention should be wasted on praise videos from fat middle aged socially retarded american's who cant get over being a kid but wont admit it so it manifest itself into playing old games and having a hissy fit cause games aren't made for his generation and he is grown out the target audience.
Your opinions dont matter not even mine there just opinions that will never be proven to be the definitive answer so my advice to you all is re evaluate your selfs.

Telling gamers to put down the mouse, or controller.. and pick up a book is also not something worth saying?
Yeah, you may call it inane, but you'd be surprised at how many people actually need to hear this ****. Bob is an intelligent man, and he tells it like it is. I don't always agree with his finer points, but his overall message is ALWAYS sound.

Your other insults are so ridiculously false (and you know they are) that I'd be stupid to even bother telling you why they're wrong (besides, you know why they're wrong anyway.)
My guess is that Bob was describing YOU in this video more often than not, and you're getting defensive about it. But since you know saying "being that kind of gamer isn't a bad thing!" would make you a liar and look like an idiot, you decided to say "he's childish and retarded" which would make you not look like an idiot, even though it'd still make you a liar.
My other guess is that you're just mad about something and need to vent.
My final guess is that you're trying to see how easy it is to lie and insult on the internet and see how people respond. Like, make a retarded message then watch people make long-winded messages telling you why you are wrong. If that's the case, congratulations, you win!

While that may be true, any blind person could see that Bob's not exactly fit. At all. By any definition.
Contrast with me. In February of this year, I weighed 278 pounds. Yeah. I started biking and dieting and lost more than SIXTY pounds. Not only that, but I'm able to bike for hours on end at more than 20 mph. I still have a few extra pounds, and according to my BMI (bogus stat that it is), I'm still overweight, but I'm also fit by nearly any definition.
Bob, on the other hand, is still fat.
To make a video telling people to exercise when you're clearly not doing a damn thing about your own health is repulsively hypocritical. I'm not ashamed to say that I look down on people like Bob because I've actually DONE something about my weight, not just talked about it. I know what it's like to be fat and I know what it's like to have to work to be thin. It's not easy, but you do what you have to. If you don't, you're just a fat, lazy slob with a big mouth. And yes, I do mean lazy. "I don't have the time" is a BS cop-out. Suck it up and get it done or you don't have room to talk to others about fitness.

hehehehehe.... ..... ....
bwaHAHAHAHA!!!
Oh wait your serious aren't you ?!?
The advise this guy gave wasn't opinion, it wasn't a rant, nor is it a
prophecy, its COMMON SENSE Albeit eloquently addressed to a target
audience that he is apart of.
If anything he is more relational because he is not so fit. Look, Hes
not saying you should look like brad pit, or have abs like him, hes
saying stop being FREAKING SLOBS! I have an old friend that had 2 year
old chicken bones under his bed and a sea of trash in his room. The guy
just wants to quill that type of indecency in this gaming culture.
Its FUNNY: The mere fact of you mentioning his weight tells me you
didn't even pay attention to his tongue-in-cheek humor when he flashed
across the screen "don't say anything about taking health advise from
an over weight man".
You dont have to be musular or skinny to be in decent shape. I have
such a high motablisim that anything i eat just dispaears but i still
find it good advise to cut down on some foods and RED Bulls as it can
mess with other things like your energy, heart rate, and teeth not just
your belly.
This guy made PERFECT sense! He basically encouraged gamers to read,
now something(anything) about politics besides who got kicked out of
activision studios, get up and walk around everyone in a while and
interact with others on a decent level. The fact that sooooo many kids
on XBox Live like to drop the N bomb, call 20 year olds ****, and
generally act like billy bad ass is in itself an inversion of what they
would really be like in real life.
Think about it....how bad would you get your ass kicked if you talked
all that smack to the target in audience in real life? Be it an older
male who's been through puberty (read has developed muscles and penis
hair), any minority group known to kick un-socialable suburban white
kids ***** for being dumb, or just find that WRONG guy to mess with.
Not to mention the lack of interaction with ....gulp...member of the
opposite sex.
He was just telling it like it is. Snacks =bad/ treat others like you'd
treat yourself/ and STOP being a DOUCHE is NOT OPINION. Its just good
practice.
BTW: I played in arcades too when i was a kid and YES it was all that.
Nothing compared to the first time i put my quarter up to play SF2 back
in the early 90s. I don't give a **** what you say...you can keep that
over hyped MW2 crap in your generation of gaming!

As to him giving advise, I'll take it if I believe he's right. If he's not following his own advise, why should that stop me from taking it and improving myself? It sounds more like you're coming up with an excuse to not do something you know is corrected just because the person who said it doesn't seem to be doing it also.
Bob is in his late twenties, and years away from a midlife crisis. The only point he was making about how social gaming used to be, is that the idiots on xbox live would probably be careful what they say if there was a chance of getting punched in the face for saying it. I'm twenty, I'm old enough to remember playing Golden Eye with more people than we had controllers. We learned to share, we learned how to be courteous even in victory, we had fun without insulting anyone.
The older gamers still play those games not because they don't want to let go, but because they're still fun to play. In ten years the current little brats will be saying how Halo is the best game ever, while the new little brats will be mocking them. I play COD and Halo and all the new stuff, but my older consoles are still in my living room, being played just as much. You don't have to grow out of everything.
My favorite argument he had was knowing other stuff besides games is important and I agree. It's nice to know what inspired aspects of games, like how Grace Holloway in Bio Shock 2 is possibly inspired by Nina Simone. And the 'High Priestess of Soul' was well before my time.

well, first of all: He is right and, let's face it, he doesn't say anything that isn't true. Second: What do you mean when you call him "middleaged"? I mean, he is 28! Does this mean, that I am middleaged too? Damn, I gues it does, right?!
Uh, and by the way: Your whole point about games beeing just produced for a certain target audience..I totaly disagree on that!

This video is great. It may be extreme and it does not apply to all gamers but the idea that there is a world outside of gaming is a key concept that i believe is being increasingly lost.

TheNemesis274 Mar 9, 2010 at 6:57 am |
And as far as the gaming community in general, aside from the g1s here on SA, as far as I am concerned, we have been often stereotyped as low-lifes who think cussing=coolness.
I also have to say, compared with the guy who made the video on the first Submission Sunday, yours was much tolerable to listen, and understand perfectly. Kudos to you once again.

I tried my best in my video to seem neutral in my comments. IE, "this happened to me, and I don't want it to happen to you." Although, in this video his tone was "shape up, you are making the whole community look bad." and using a stronger tone was certainly needed.

Looking at "The Only Thing I Know", you can see that CirrusEpix deliberately tried to present his opinions in a friendly manner. This episode of TGO however, leaves a snide, over-authoritative taste in my mouth.

This has got to be your most eloquent episode ever. I'm definitely going to try taking this advice for my lifestyle. Also, I was born in 94, I've for a very long time hated having to miss the arcade scene, and hated that they died before I got the chance to play them. After this video, that's certainly made me angrier about that.

I never considered CC's to be an arcade either. It was when I was about 13 that I realized I had NEVER had fun there. It's really a lot like an MMO grind-fest. Constantly scraping the bottom of my token cup for tickets... to get worthless prizes. The only games there that are actual GAMES are the ones that DON'T give you any tickets, and even THEY pretty much suck.
Except Ski-ball. Ski-ball is awesome.

That place got quikly replaced by a place called Playzone.....call me stupid, but i haven't heard of any Playzone over there, do u have one?.
Anyway, the place was a gazillion times better than CC. We have a Kid's Museum too, wich is anything but what it sounds. It was like a freakin mini Disneyland...It had a flag (literaly the size of your house) made of Legos and a room (also the size of a house) that had those litle plastic balls shooting from the roof, and walls and it had litle catapults and gear machines with wich you could make stupid litle wars with the kids across the room... and and all kinds of crazy ****.....god, i miss being eleven.

Be a better gamer. **** **** ****
Don't be like an xbox live nutter. **** **** ****
With an agenda to turn gamers into evolved human beings I think the tact here is wrong somehow. As Ghandi said, you have to be the change you wish to see in the world.
This episode will either pass by or followed on by some 'guilty movementing'. Maybe I'll be watching the 24/7 webcam of TGO eating mini carrots and reading 'The Idiot' next week.
Between this and the only thing I know, my bul**** filter overfloweth with crap. Thankfully I'm old enough to understand such concepts as the 'journalistic device'.

I don't like the GOT and I will not agree with everything he said (most of which does simply not apply to me, so I have no right to spill my hate all over it). He took real extreme examples of what a the worst case of gamer might be, to get as much content together as possible. Yet, I believe that somewhere out there you can find a gamer just like the one he describes - that's the sad truth. It's also true, that most of us gamers have no idea who that person is and why he tells us about her/him.
Well, yes, he is right and it has finally been a passable episode after a looooong period of consistent crap.
Still, it feels strange and implausible that he of all people tells us to do more sports and eat healthy food. He is right, but he does not come across very believable.

PS to MovieBob
Bob, you used to cut back the swears a ton when you were exclusively posting stuff on Youtube. Now you drop the F-bomb as much as James Rolfe. The difference is James is acting when he does so whereas you're having a serious discussion and most of these episodes are about expressing your opinions and observations. Please remember who IS watching when you talk about being polite and courteous, all the while cussing like a sailor.

While I must admit some of the advice he gives is good it seems this can be said about probably anything out there not just video games. It bothers me that people keep on talking about doing other things but in reality all of those things like doing sports, playing instruments, reading books, writing, can all be hobbies.
I speak for myself when I say this but if you really want to do one of these things for a living you gotta put your life on the line and risk things if you wanna become a professional athlete, gamer, musician, or writer you literally have to eat, breathe, and dream the thing you wanna be unless your a naturally good at it. The sad part is that there is people who don't want to realize that they actually suck in the one thing they actually love and have so much passion for.
And common he expects us to know politics isn't there a reason why we have school is like if I were to go outside and ask random people who these people are I bet the majority won't have a clue.

Due i have 1 comment about the behavoir part
It's not a gamer only problem, it's a worldwide problem now and days.
Not only online people act like that. I have some guys at school who act just like this and i know that it is like that worldwide aswell.
Alot of the youth are being huge dicks.
Ofcourse not everyone (like us, G1s) aren't like that.
I just hope douchebags online watch this and makes a bell ring in their heads. Due i doubt it, since that would mean that they HAVE a brain.

Parents these days are more scared of their kids. It should be the other way around! Kids need to be taught at a young age that certain things are not tolerated in polite society and the gaming industry is no different.
