The OverThinker lavishes what might be an inappropriate amount of attention on Bayonetta's... "form," and in the process examines the tiny details of why some characters tend to look the way they look.

i completely agree with the point that the game is a blast the play( its devil may cry with good fighting system and good controls) and the fact that bayonetta is a well designed character make me yern for a sequel or another game.
i too have yet to finish it. the difficulty its hard enough to bring u back and try again

Can you clarify? The way I'm reading it is that they streamlined the controls and somehow that's a bad thing. To me it seems a control scheme is never something you should struggle with but ideally has enough depth that you've got to hone your reflexes to master it.

You should not be able to do that crazy **** you do by pressing Y several times IMO. In DMC you feel proud when you manage to pull of a long string of combos or not get hit against a boss

Arkham asylum had streamlined controls but at the same time it was more like a rhythm game with goons as notes. Getting a perfect score is very rewarding.

The difference between good and bad in this genre is the difference between button mashing and finesse. As long as the latter is present it doesn't matter how showy a one button combo is, you're not in the game unless you've got another trick up your sleeve.
Perhaps they could stand to include a harder difficulty for the truly hardcore but everything else I've seen and heard tells me it's an improvement over the DMC formula.

As long as you still have to time your button presses and dodge when the situation calls for it I don't see an issue, especially if you can't start a move and immediately dodge out of it. Plus, if that's the kind of thing you can do just pressing Y, what can you do with the more complex combos?

DMC 3 was the high point of the series, and after how meh 4 was, I really hope they inject some life into the next game.
Bayonetta is awesome though. What else could you expect from the same director of the original DMC, Viewtiful Joe, and Okami? This game wins.

DMC is good (well, at least 1 and 3) but Bayonetta really broadens its appeal and takes it to a brand new level - it can be fun for lots of gamers to play through, but it's an intense and deep challenge for those looking to actually play it well... exactly like DMC.

That isn't how I see it. I love the game, but prefer DMC. To me it feels like DMC that plays for you, and you can pretty much just sit back and enjoy the show on normal. And even on hard you never struggle with the inputs (like you should in a game like this) but only with the timing.

I love how Bob looks at gaming how its supposed to be looked at an art, a misunderstood art but art.

I find it hilarious: the original Sega press releases for Bayonetta [about 18 months ago now] made me sure the game would such, they suggested 1] Sega are the masters of fail no matter how hard they overcompensate; 2] the game will be too character-heavy and only sell to those into ass n titties and 3] her name / description etc made her sound like a model / ballerina who got in with the wrong crowd, and not a crazy witch / warrior lady
How wrong I was, the first thing I first noticed about her was this: HEY LOOK A COOL VG CHARACTER, VERY COCKY AND WISE-ASS BUT FEMALE! Which did kinda feel really original to me - this arrogant personality suits Bayonetta. We dont need another Dante, Sonic or hmm Captain Falcon type ******* in gaming. And yes it looks like a blast to play.

Gaming industry seems to consider us - gamers - little boys or immature 20something and gives us those generic Chun-Li/Cammy playable characters and almost always those poor innnocent and unable to act on their own Peaches/Zeldas. It's somehow connected with nudity in gaming. In Bayonetta you can tell that the whole concept of the game is to tease you with sexuality and that the violence is overdrawn on purpose. It's rated M and so is ME:2 and DA:O which try to be realistic with their combat and violence but in those two games by Bioware you won't see a female body in such strong sexual context as in Bayonetta. Developers tell us: violence, blood and gore - OK, nudity, even partial - BADBADBAD! At least Dante's Inferno starts to break this ******* tabu.

Yeah, Bayonetta is amazing. I saw and knew everything you said in the video ever since I watched the trailers, but you explained it flawlessly and perfectly.
Bayonetta is just the best
