He sure is. I personally don't have anything against it, but embarrassing to be caught in the act. Let's just assume he owns FFVI, III, whatever.

Yikes, definitely do not let your friends write lyrics to Terra's theme while drunk. lol

Nope, I'm not 100% on the topic so I'll have to look it up. Tell you what, this calls for some kind of blog!

Nothing says he's not playing it on Bleem, or any other PS1->PC app, and that there's not a copy of Anthologies in the drive.

Besides ROM's are legal as long as you have the original copy of the game. And I'm not surprised that someone would rather play on emu than on SNES - all thanks to the glory of FastForward button.

Not entirely true, but it's accepted that way.

There's a factor that comes into play that most don't know/think about, being that the ROM you're playing has to be a legit ROM as well. Meaning that the ROM has to come from a legal copy of the game. There's a whole bunch of legal mumbo-jumbo behind that, but that's the way it works around here anyway. Same thing with music.

Yeah, that's right - even though it's legal to have a "back-up" of your game, if you didn't make the back-up yourself (i.e. Downloaded it), it's not technically legal.

Of course no one really cares, and most large gaming websites will use an emulator to capture footage or screens, simply because it's much less hassle.

As long as you own the Actual game, you can have a back up file. That's totally legit.

Guys guys guys guys. Let's just say that he hooked a system up to a video capture card and look the other way shall we?

Or maybe he's playing the anthology on PS1 using an emulator. That should be legal enough?

ScrewAttack it let's go back to the video capture card thing. That's good enough.

I don't really think it's an emulator, at that angle you wouldn't really see much on the screen.  I believe he used the magic of his video edit software to put clips of FFVI on the computer screen.

Anyways, that's how I"d like to think of it.  =)

Anyway, emulator with x10 speed is the only decent way of getting the best shield in the game. Has anyone really won 255 fights with a cursed/poisoned/slowed/whatever guy just for that? If anyone answers yes, GET A LIFE!!!!! it takes YEARS even with fast speed.

Well, I would much rather play the games on the origonal consoles but I do use an emulaters to play translations of games that were never released in america like EarthBound 3 and Secret of Mana 2(3?). But if an official translation was released I would gladly spend $60 on it. Its also fun to see the stuff people can do hacking roms, like automatic mario. There are also some real quality rom hacks like Super Metroid Redesign to name one. Also I can see where if your capturing and editing it would be useful to be able to save state and slow down or speed up gameplay. Avgn used an emulater in his terminator review to capture from a Game Boy game simply becuse it would look better than using the super gameboy. As for it being legal its kind of in the grey area of the law and there is a lot of terms and conditions that may make it illigal.

The fact that he was drunk solves all the problems of legality ^^

the thing about ROMs is that they're actually slated under copyright which means that(AFAIK) owning one is a breach of copyright, and seeing as how copyright runs out after 25 years if nobody else purchases the rights to the franchise, this means that if a ROM is of a 25 year old game, the ROM is legal

I'm sorry? what?

. In some countries (for example, the United States[48] and the United Kingdom[49]), copyrights expire at the end of the calendar year in question.

I live in ireland(born in UK) so my comment applies to me, ROMs are legal here =D

Owning the original has nothing to do with whether or not running the ROM on an emulator is legal.
