So to just get this straight, you bought a $500 dollar machine that you can't use.

Nice! Would be a neat thing to check out. I remember hearing about the PSX a long time ago. Seemed like an awesome idea at the time, but then I saw the price and went... O_O WHAAAAAAT?!?

This is one of the reasons i don't care much for Sony products, they use mostly proprietary overpriced hardware, and standards, that about 1/2 the time don't catch on. Two good examples are, Anyone outside of Japan or parts of Europe, remember much about Mini Disc, or how many devices, that are not Sony(besides card readers they don't count) use or accept Memory stick/pro/duo?? No wonder Sony is in the hole they can't produce products that make money, they have to take a loss on hardware, hoping they can make it up in overpriced software(Movies, Games, etc..). Sorry for sounding like i am bashing Sony here, but i use to love to play the PS1 back in the day, Sony now more then ever needs to learn to take some ques in the games industry from profit makers like Nintendo, and Microsoft, they have hardware they can sell at a decent price, and still make a profit off of.

I was surprised to see the PSX had a USB port and not FireWire exclusively, which Sony is also very fond of. Nearly all of their cameras up to 2007 used FireWire instead of USB.

USB is cheaper, and more stuff uses it, and i think they had to get a license from apple to use Firewire, which might of ran out, in order to use it, as apple was one the original developers of Firewire, and around that time Apple was pushing it's own products very heavy like the Imacs, and Ipods that had Firewire. I had an Imac G3 Graphite with OSX 10.3 for about a year, i got cheap off a friend before the monitor blew, and i honestly never used the Firewire on it once, but used the heck out of the USB lol.

I also forgot to mention that Sony also had some cameras(don't remember the model #'s off hand) that used actual 3.5in floppies to store pics, before they used Firewire, the cameras where real battery hogs, and did not hold up too well, cause of the floppy drive, My high school had a few of them for the year book club, cause it made it easy to transfer pics onto the old crappy Dell hell's we also had to work with.

The reason Sony can do that is because is a GARGANTUAN Corporation and the just can do this kind of things...

for example the mini disc, they did it... did it sell well? no that much
did it sell more than one? Yes.
Did the lose money? Maybe...
did they have another division to back it up? Yes

Remember Sony has multiple divisions (TV, DVD, BLU RAY, CONSOLE, AUDIO, VIDEO, IMAGE, MOVIE STUDIOS, etc...)

Plus did you know that they are the ONLY ONES in the world to make and sell videoscopes? Each videoscope sells for at least $25,000. And remember they are the ONLY ONES  IN THE WORLD  to do them.

So yeah they can do that and still not fall in the red financially
Videoscopes are the little cameras like the ones that the SWAT uses in movies to see under the door, that thing.

Actually Sony has been posting a lot of bad Quarter profits as of late, So much so the Japanese government is stepping to try to shore up the company, I have a link from the Washington post to prove it, Sony still alienates itself from most mainstream consumers as i have said before, cause of there use of things like Memory Stick which is not found on any Non Sony products, they should use CF, MMC, SD or even XD for Christ sake, also that one item you pointed out is not gonna say there company, from record losses, and consumers not buying from them. BTW here is the Washington post link http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/02/16/AR2009021600777.html

I love that you don't actually sound Finnish, but rather have picked up some sort of British accent. Almost sounds vaguely Scottish, or something. Wish I could do that when I speak English, rather than the Norwegian-American-British mish-mash I usually speak.

Anyways, very good show there, Johan! Really informative and all that. You got my sub!:D

Good video. I never understood why people called the original Playstation a PSX in the first place. I remember them being as rare as the net-yaroze. hope you get a step down/up transformer soon to try it out.

During development, the internal name for PS1 was PlayStation
Experimental. SCEA initially wanted to name the console PSX and even
used that name on promotional materials.

Cheers for the link. While  i knew they did use it for promtional items very early on it's the same as the Ultra 64 and all other codenames that never get used once a console establishes itself. After a few years it was weird to still here people call a PS1 by PSX, considering you don't here people say other consoles by the wrong names :P

I always thought Ultra 64 was a better name than Nintendo 64. =)
