Hey g1s, Big D here with a brand spankin' new episode of Collections! While this collection is incomplete by two or three games, I've decided to go ahead and give ya'll a look at it. I'm not the biggest fan of the series, but I always check out each game of this series. I'm talking about, The Legend of Zelda.

Now I know many hardcore fans of the Zelda series will probably call this cheating, but I consider owning the Collector's Edition disc as owning both the original NES games. They're both on there, and they both work flawlessly with the Gamecube controller, so why not? Not to mention it also comes packed with Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. I got my gold copy of Majora's Mask on the side there for free, believe it or not.

Pictured here I've got the, what I consider superior version, of Twilight Princess. I wasn't a fan of this game actually. Wind Waker felt like such a huge leap forward for the franchise, and this game felt like it took it back to Ocarina of Time. Also pictured I've got all three of the Gameboy and Gameboy Color games. Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons are both a lot of fun, and it's a shame not many Zelda fans have really played them. Link's Awakening DX was purchased mainly due for collection purposes, I wasn't that big of a fan of the original.

Some may find Ocarina of Time on the N64 as the best part of this picture, while others may find the semi-rare Master's Quest disc the best part of this picture. However, I find the Versus Books players guide as the best part of this picture by FAR! Versus Books made the BEST guides back when they were still in business. All their guides now run for a decent amount of cash on sites like eBay. They always included hand-drawn maps, exclusive character art, and literally every single secret in the game it was covering.
Well that pretty much wraps it up for my Zelda collection. Now before any of you start pointing out my missing games, I'll go ahead and tell you my future plans. I do plan on getting Wind Waker and the Four Swords Adventure for the Gamecube within the near future. Also, yes I do plan on getting either the GBA or SNES version of a Link to the Past. I'll probably go with the GBA version solely due to the packed in Four Swords game, and because the longer battery life. I could totally see me getting the SNES version as well though, as that is my favorite Zelda game.
Thanks for reading this entry guys. If you've got any input, opinion, or comment to make please feel free. Comment, rate, digg, do whatever! I love to see what you guys think, so don't feel shy. Once again, thanks for reading and I'll see ya'll next time.
Two things:
Pull the used sticker off your Majora's Mask and rub off the sharpie from your Ocarina of Time. That kind of stuff just drives me crazy. Goo Gone is a great product for removing stickers and some inks.
Other than that good stuff. You may want to look into finding a gold version of Ocarina of Time since your a collector.

Those are battle scars man.
Those are battle scars man. You can't remove those.
Big D, I just recently started "collecting" video games, not just playing whatever is new. I recently got The Legend of Zelda Collectors Edition. I got it because it wasn't for resale. It shold be worth something in like 50 years. Ohh, and it kick's ass! The conviencefactor is rediculious.
Good blog! Keep it up!
It's good stuff...
You can't just NOT buy a disc that includes 4 Zelda games. Both the original NES titles and both the N64 titles? All it was really missing was a Link to the Past, which I'm sure they could've fit in there. Sad they didn't though. Now I've got to buy it...haha.

Hahaha, me too
Yeah that's an old pic. I've got a more updated pic that I'm gonna replace with this one pretty soon, the tag is off. When I pulled it out to take the new picture (because I got another piece of my collection that I added to the pic) I took it off. I didn't even remember having it on. Shows how often I play the game. I prefer the Gamecube version.
- Drew
Well....
It is a good start for a collection. I mean we are talking about something that was on the NES. Going that far back you might have some trouble finding a good condition game with a manual, if thats what you are going for. Also, I would agree that you also need the gold edition for the orcarina. I do digg on the the black version of Link's Awakening. I don't have that one yet, but I plan on it very soon.
What you also might want to look out for is the collectors edition guide book for the Twilight Princess and the Phantom Hourglass. They are hardcover and they just look nice.
TP or PH? Meh...
I was NOT a big fan, or even a fan really of Twilight Princess. So screw the guide, I don't care for it. As far as the Phantom Hourglass one...that's intriguing. I haven't played that game yet, but I do need to get it for my collection anyway. I'm usually not big on guides though unless it's Resident Evil games, or if it's made by Versus Books. They are seriously the only guide makers worth paying for, unfortunately they don't exist anymore. Sad face!
The black Link's Awakening is actually Link's Awakening DX. It's an updated version of the original for the GBC. It's in color and includes an extra dungeon. Pretty cool huh?
Also to answer you and kain_kusanagi. I have no intention on getting the gold version of OoT. I wasn't a big fan of that game, so meh it doesn't interest me. I'm satisfied with my N64 copy, and 3 versions I have available on my Gamecube.

Collecting is all about what
Collecting is all about what makes you feel happy, so if your happy with what you have there's no reason to spend any more money.
Sometimes I have to stop myself from taking a good deal on an old game that I don't have any intention of playing. Sometimes I get caught up in haveing a complete collection that I forget that it's not worth the endless dollars.
I try to keep my collecting restricted to stuff I really love and keep my eye out for really good deals. Nobody needs everything even if it sometimes feels like it.

I'm an old school gamer, but I'm still hip. Wait, when referring to oneself as, "Hip", does it reverse its meaning?
I've done the same...
Some series I am EXTREMELY hardcore about collection, such as Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid. In fact, Metal Gear is the only games where I really want the NES cartridges. Unfortunately, since I'm American, I'll have to settle for the crappy Snake's Revenge...but in actuality that's kind of cool.
RE and MGS are the two series that can make me spit out cash, and usually I don't mind. My Resident Evil collection is enormous, but not complete just yet...I'm getting there though. I'm still missing a few versions of the games.
What people don't realize is that these games aren't going anywhere. Also collectors go through hard times, or grow out of it and sell their stuff for dirt cheap. That's when you strike! For example, there's this BIG TIME collector at this flea market I go to, but he sells their games for what they're worth. Usually $10 to $20, sometime $40 to $60. Depends on the game, console, and rarity. So I never really buy from him. A few tables down, I find someone selling a trash bag full of old Genesis games, connection cables, controllers, and other random stuff (2 Gamecube controllers) for just $5. It's situations like this that make collecting a delicious hobby. It's good with ranch too.

Flee markets a great, but
Flee markets a great, but sometimes it's hard to walk by with out spending money. The main downside to flee market venders is they don't usually guarantee their stuff so you take a risk in purchasing. I only buy vintage consoles if they are absurdly cheap and the vender swears it works.

Thanks for sharing your collection with us, D. We'll just send this over to the block so others can enjoy it too. Oh, and enjoy 150 g1 points. :)
No, thank you!
Cool. My second blog to make it to the top. I'm glad to see I'm getting this kind of exposure. I honestly work very hard on my blogs and usually put out 1 to 2 a day. When you're working with series, and putting out 1 to 2 a day, it can be hard to stay fresh. The g1 points may just be the ticket, but I prefer more comments, ratings, and diggs...so knowing that I'm going into the "block" recently is helping with that.
SOOOO, thank you sir! I appreciate it.

This reminds me I really
This reminds me I really need to find my N64 again I have been itching to play it again. To explain so I dont get flamed lol I moved so everything is in boxes and everything is being unpacked :)
I love OoT on the N64 :)
Great Collection its hard to find the originals now unless you want to pay an arm and an a leg.
WHERE ARE THE GOLDEN CARTS
Of the FIRST TWO ZELDA ???

sigh...
If you had read my blog...which I'm assuming you didn't by what your comment says...you would have noticed that I mentioned I technically OWN the two originals on a Gamecube disc. Therefore I don't feel the need to own the actual cartridges since the GC version is a perfect port. Thanks for commenting though.
- Drew
still dude...
I mean...a port and a NES cart isn't the same thing to me..
But hey I 'don't blame you... I'm jealous of the GAME CUBE limited disc :D

Still dude...
It's the same to me, and here's why....
1) The games were ported flawlessly
2) I never really liked or enjoyed Zelda II
3) The first game holds no nostalgia/childhood memories for me
4) When I technically have the games, I'm not gonna dish out cash for something I don't want
5) I'm glad I feel this way because it's also easier this way
So there you have it. Thanks for reading and commenting, man.

Not being a jerk, but...
...that "collection" stinks. You are using your copy the Gamecube Zelda Promotional disc (wich is fairly rare, so points there) to count as Zeldas you don't have? Come on...
Majoras Mask has no box/instructions and to make it worse it has a sticker, wich instantly makes it useless for true collectors.
TP is fine, not complete Seasons/Ages/DX (yes its rare to have them complete)
The Gamecube version of OoT and OoT:MQ is also fairly rare. N64 OoT has a marking, and again not complete. The strategy guide is worn.
A very average "collection" of Zelda games is what I see. Nothing special.
Gotta get them complete, and get the rest of the games.
Hold onto them though, they'll be worth a lot in the future.
So much for not being a
So much for not being a jerk. He's not trying to be a "true" collector. I collect games too and I make reviews on the games in my collection (shameless plug for checking out my blog).
It's like this guy I met who collects Star Wars action figures, but he keeps them in their original packaging. What's the point? Even if they are worth something, he's not going to sell them. He wants to behold his awesome collection and show it off to the few that care.
If I buy a game is because it's good and I want to play it. These are my Zelda games:
Zelda Collector's Disk
A Link to the Past GBA
Link's Awakening DX
Ocarina of Time/Master Quest
Oracle of Ages
Wind Waker
Four Swords Advantures
Twiling Princess GCN
As you can see, I'm down to three left in order to have the entire series: Oracles of Seasons, Minish Cap, and Phamtom Hourglass (don't have a DS yet, though).
In fact, if you are a "true" collector, you need to be aware of something: there are two versions of Ocarina of Time, a "red blood" version, and a "green blood" version. Basically, when you beat Ganondorf, he spits red blood in the first editions of the game, but further editions have him spit green blood. Also, the Fire Temple music is different in both versions.
~My two cents.
I like this guy already.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one bothered by the TRUE collector statement.
Yeah I am aware of the two blood versions, while I would prefer to own the Red Blood version, who gives a crap? They're the same game. Not to mention a game that I don't hold any special feelings, nostalgia fueled memories for so meh. You did point something out to me though...
For awhile I thought I only needed about 3 games, since this blog I've realized I need:
A Link to the Past
Wind Waker
Four Swords Adventure
Minish Cap
Phantom Hourglass
Yowza!!! That's a lot of games. Ah well, I plan on getting Wind Waker and maybe Four Swords by the end of this year. Then I'll be missing just 3. A Link to the Past is gonna suck to buy because I'm pretty sure I want the SNES version. I might get the GBA version also because it comes packed with Four Swords. That is unless Four Swords for the Gamecube is the same game...is it? I thought it was a sequel, but if it's just a port I'll stick with the Gamecube version.
- Drew
JERK!!! I'm just joking...
I had no problem with your comment untiiiiiil,
"Majoras Mask has no box/instructions and to make it worse it has a sticker, wich instantly makes it useless for true collectors."
True collectors? Who is anybody to decide who is or is not a TRUE collector. People collect bottle caps...does it not count if they don't have the bottle it came with or the 6-pack box the bottle was contained in, I mean that's a the TRUE package. Much like a game with the instructions and box.
I prefer buying my games with instructions and the case, I do. When it comes to cartridge based games...I couldn't care less. Are you going to insult people like Handsome Tom or Angry Video Game Nerd for their, apparently, FAKE collections because most of their games don't include the box or instructions.
The Collector's Edition disc does count as owning the two original games, not the original cartridges. I didn't care for Zelda II, and the original Zelda wasn't a classic from my childhood, so why am I going to dish out loads of cash for'em? I'm not.
Since these pictures were taken, I've removed the sticker from Majora's Mask and will take care of the marking on OoT whenever I feel like it. Also, the guide isn't worn. It's really in tip-top shape. No creased pages, poster still inside (I think, haha), no water marks, nothing.
I never said my collection was above average or special in anyway. When I wrote the first draft for this blog, I kept saying that my collection was nothing special when I realized, You know what screw that my collection IS special. I spent the money, I found the games, and it's MY collection. Maybe it's an average collection, which is fine, but what would have made it above average? The gold cartridges? Yeah right. Almost every Zelda TRUE collector has those, not to mention without the cases and instructions. If anything, I'm above average for NOT having them, because it's less common nowadays.
To end this, I'm not mad. This was just a deeper response to a few comments you made. I respect your opinion, and thanks for reading! Further debates await, I'm sure. Make sure you check out my future collections I'll be posting.
- Drew
Not to be a jerk
I don't want to flog a dead horse here but if you do want to make your collection more complete you should invest in the original NES carts, but I can also understand how your collection is special to you because it doesn't have the orginals NES carts. If you do feel like expanding your collection into the 8-bit (and have the money) but would also like to preserve your collection's uniqueness I suggest hunting down the grey Zelda carts, no I idea how much they cost, just know they exist and are more rare then the gold.
Meh...
Gold cart or Grey cart, either way the games aren't that special to me as they are to many others. My older brothers would be more interested in that kind of thing, but they're not really collectors. Now if it was the same case, but with Resident Evil then you'd have an argument.
- Drew
I'm going to lose a lot of
I'm going to lose a lot of points here, but to prove my point, let me tell you: When I bought the Collector's Disk, I already had the N64 OoT and the Master Quest disk. So I had the same game three times. I deliberated for a long time, and finally decided to sell the N64 version. Honestly, why have three copies of the same game, even if it is OoT? I played the GameCube versions, and they are very much the same as the original. Each disk has something I'm not willing to give up, so it made sense to me to sell the N64 game and buy something else with the money.
~My two cents.
I agree...
I did the same thing actually. I bought the Collector's Edition when I already had the Master Quest disc. Not only that, but I got a free copy of the N64 version, along with my free Majora's Mask for the N64. Instead of selling it, I decided to keep it just because. No real reason. I can totally see where you are coming from though. I'd rather hold onto it and sell it when it's worth a lot more than give it up now for a mere $10, which seems to be the asking price.
