first things first. i'm a huge indy fan but i didn't go in comparing it to the old ones. it opens with quite a long car ride with the russians and some americans. it just introduces you and you get the feeling of the 50's. when the warhouse seen comes along the indy music kicks in for the first action scene.
admit it. you're going to get hooked when you here the music.
ford at the age of 65 was incredible. jumping, whiping greatness. you're introduced to evil russian lady and clearly indy's rival. the big bad russian guy, like all the big bad guys from before. only indiana jones can end with a nuclear explosion. the manikin town felt kinda out of place but hey. this is america in the 1950's testing weapons. one of the first classics you see of the film is when indy looks up at the blast and you see his silhouette. that opening sequence had some of the best sequencing.
when mutt (shia) is introduced you get the feeling that he is a douchebag. thinks his hard, rude to people and rides a bike. over the course of the film you grow to love him. his acting is pretty decent but im not here to review him. it all leads of from here trying to find the skull and indys pal Oxley. the map bit with the red line! wouldn't be indy without it. from here the sequences just lead them to more trouble like the monkey people in the graveyard, finding the skull and running into the russions again. this all leads to the 'truth' and the EXCELLENT jungle chase. what i did notice was alot of the action was with vechicles: bike chase, jungle chase and other stuff. anyway this is where shia shines. the fighting was great. indy taking down one group and mutt on another. the sword fight was classic in the indy series. the swinging on the vines was abit wierd. then come the ants.
the ants were added to the list of things like the snakes and rats. but these kill. all the russians being eaten and then theres the big fight between indy and big russian guy. russian guy gets eaten. i was worried about the hat but he got it back. anyway you proberly heard about the sci-fi stuff. i didn't like it before but i grew to like it. i mean they did heaven, hell and religious stuff. where else can they go. it all carries on and the they get to the place where the skull goes. no it gets wierd even on indy standards. the alien comes ALIVE and russian lady blows up. she could of hade a better death. all the others melted and had there heads blow up. the aliens leave to, and i quote, 'the spaces between space'. they all go home and happy ever after. when the hat blows up to mutt and he picks it up i was scared. this is the passing of the torch, or the hat in this case. but indy picks it up before it lands on his head. yeah more indy.
sorry i got a bit carried away. but i loved this movie. i don't get all the negative reviews because it was great. much better the temple of doom but not as good as the others.
8/10
