Hello everyone, I woke up this morning hoping to read everybodies comments on my new Japan Now! ep and of course, I expected to see a few bad comments perhaps about it being boring or about it now having other segments, but no, what I did read surprised me.
Some community memembers began a discussion about Pocky simply tasting bad (which is fine) but then continued it to the point that they brought up the term "weeaboo". This term is recently new to me but it essentially is what was formerly referred to as being a japanophile. A person obsessed with all things Japan. Apparently Pocky has been deemed a "weeaboo only food" by some ScrewAttack g1s as well as people over at Destructoid.com. Our members even went out of their way to attack another g1 for posting that he liked Pocky as a snack.
All blogging communities have this problem and luckily ScrewAttack has been fairly mild with it, but people really like to segregate other members. Whether you are put into an xbox fanboy group, a weeaboo, a sony fan girl, a hard core gamer or otherwise people try to put you into a small group in a negative way.
Segregating people is not voicing your opinions. It is not expressing your freedom of speech. It is not helping the community to accomplish anything. It IS complete bullshit though and needs to stop. Over at Destructoid I literally received private messages asking for me to die, leave the community, or to burn in hell with the other weeaboos. That site has been hateful since I started posting things over there and the more I read other peoples blogs, the more it looks like a cheap and dirty gang war.
Every site has its problems and I am concerned that as ScrewAttack grows, that similar problems will occur here. I know moderators are busy and look for serious offenses but is it entirelly impossible to put some kind of rule list up that states a no tolerance policy towards attacking others for their likes?
Now do not misunderstand. Giving criticism is perfectly fine even though it can be harsh sometimes. Posting on somebody elses blog and attacking them for their preference while throwing in terms that further help to segregate that person really should be looked down on.
I apologize for the length of this blog but after having woken up and reading such bullshit on both this site and other sites I posted on it was really disappointing and I wanted to get this out before heading to work.
What is everyone elses thoughts on the way we segregate people? Anybody here want to admit that they have done it in the past but want to aim to not do so in the future?

I Kinda know how you feel although not the same thing i gotta a lot of stick on GT over one of my vids because of the way i say some words and my accent, as i am from England and its bullshit i agree. I to do not mind criticism but when people make it a personal attack it plain sux. But to be honest with you there are always gonna be twats like that and as these communties are so vast it would be impossible to stamp out these type of comments unless they feature a "report abuse" option in which you must select for anyone of any authourity to take notice then it is up to them. But i feel you pain mate.
Your vids kick arse anyway so they are just jeolous that you make some good shit.

Personal attacks suck, for sure.
Just remember, most of those people would never say that to you in person, out of respect and acceptance of other people's differences.
But, on the Internet, people feel free to say stupid things, just because they can do it with no consequences.

Me and a group of people discussed about the community at the Iron-Man of Gaming and I sure hope it wouldn't be going to hell. Hopefully this might be an isolated incident, but stuff like that shouldn't be tolerated.
For those who want to attack others because of their likes, then by all means, come after me. I'm probably, according to thier words, a japanophile or "weeaboo" more than most in this community. I like anime. I like card games. I occasionally like Pocky. I like the 360. I like the Wii. Probably come up with more about what you could hate on me for, but I'm busy with other things.
I don't want to see this shit about name calling and such because of what one person might like, but not you. If you don't like it, then say your peace and get on with your life.
Once again, if it make you feel better to call someone a name or disgrace someone, then come and do it to me.
Agree.....to a point
I almost entirely agree, it's bull that people have to put up with other people being complete asshats just because they like something the other person doesn't. It's childish (or I've heard the term schoolish used) but it's also the internet's way. Those of us that can not just shrug it off and move on? We end up in the masses of hate.
However I have kinda been involved in that sort of thing. I have let myself become hateful and say some things that were directed at people because of their beliefs. The issue at hand was simply the fact that one could not voice concerns about a story being played out with the author becoming defensive.
Now under your version of the no tolerance act, does that mean I should have been banned from the site never to be seen again? Or does that mean that people actually had to use their brains to defend the author in question, and hope I wouldn't continue to be a little prick about things?
The only way you let people win on the internet is when you let them get to you. That is my belief. If those people told you to DIAF sir? Then I say delete the PM and look for the one from people you respect. Those guys will either fade, or make bad fanfiction one day and be laughed at the next gen of internet idiots.

Just try to remember that Morons, Assholes, and Children have access to the Internet. Their insults and ignorance should just be ignored. They have the option of anonymity, so there's not much to be done.
We just have to hope that moderators do their best to keep offensive people away.
Epic Fail...
It's true, giving crtcism is not bad and it has to be accepted or just forget it. But start attacking anyone else because of its preferences, likes, thoughts, etc... might go a bit too far. Geting personal and try to insult and make the other ones geting insult isn't a mature idea, just because someone likes a certain thing doesn't mak him a bad person, just like Kazekawa said "if i play once Xbox, i'm a microsoft fan boy?". Take me as an example. there were a lot of people at first who flame and bash my "accent", after a few vids later i was able to talk fluent and better and people started to stop bashing the vid for my accent" althought many stop it after they were inform by most g1's who told them that i wasn't from US and that at least i was trying to learn a second language, even a douche wrote some words like "i cunz nuth undsrtsuond yuop" and Ben called him and told him how arsh he was commenting.
We have to face it, the internet can hide many of us if we want to stab and laught at the guys/girl's face with any repercution, i don't care for stupid, inmature comments, as always i prefer to recive a constructive comment than a "you suck" comment, if you say i suck, then face me even on the internet and tell me why i suck? if the douche only starts RE:"because you suck" i jsut don't care because it might be a stupid 13 year old inmature kid trying to be a badass...
i just read this and check the comments and actually seeing i was one of the "weeboos". I can only say that who wrote that man be serius, inmature comments like that just ruins the fun on blogging.
anyway totally agree with Kazekawa, just keep it up and hope to see a better community in the future because we arenot just a community, we are g1's! be proud of being one don't just insult because you don't like something, be constructive, not destructive...
