Hello everybody,I am the Radical Dickhead and THIS is my corner . Last time, I interviewed Chad. I would add something fancy before his name but like he said nothing stuck… (Lyu for the win). This time I am going to be interviewing Hig…College Ben? Should we stick with HighSchool or advance to College Ben?
Q: I must tell you…Before I buy a game I first refer to the scoop, because you talk about stuff we care, not like other “professional reviewers” that talk about everything even things that don’t affect the experience at all! Was this the original job of The Scoop? It looked like you were going for only Nintendo games, what changed your mind?
A: Yes, the whole object of the Scoop is to throw out the most important factors of a game that will most likely affect a gamer's opinion about it, because in the end, it's the gamer's choice choice whether or not they'll buy said game, not the reviewer's. And yeah, they did seem to start off with more Nintendo games... pure coincidence, I guess. I think I've spent four times as many hours playing my 360 than my Wii.
Q: What you studying in college? You and Jose helping one another?
A: I'm studying film. I've wanted to be a director in film and television ever since I was ten years old, and I have yet to change my goal! And as far as helping out Jose, he wouldn't have even got his schedule together without me haha! Well... maybe he would have, but yeah, we help each other out if the other needs it.
Q: Favourite room/space in the ScrewAttack HQ?
A: Hmm... the game room. That's the room that you usually see in videos. It's perfect because almost every gaming system ever is at your disposal, a bathroom and min-fridge are just to your left, behind you rests Pac Man, Blitz, Showtime, Street Fighter 3, and Primal Rage all on free-play, we've had a large bag of candy sitting in there recently, and then there's the couch. I edit most of my videos with my MacBook Pro while sitting on that couch. Oh yeah, comfort + ScrewAttack + games + cold soda and candy = awesomeness.
Q: Sonic or Mario, Sega or Nintendo?
A: This is tricky... you talking classic games? I'd pick Sonic over Mario, but Nintendo over Sega. You talking today? Mario over Sonic, and tie between Sega and Nintendo simply because Sega can actually put some decent games out on Nintendo's systems while Nintendo struggles with that very idea.
Q: If you saw Shigeru Miyamoto in front of you what would be one think you would tell him? Think before you answer because you can only say one thing(Not both Kid Icarus revival and Star Fox)
A: I wouldn't ask him anything. I'd thank him for bringing so much awesomeness to gaming and essentially making gaming what it is today. However, if I did have a chance to say one more thing, I'd follow up with “WII MUSIC??? WTF!?!?”
Q: Which company would you want to enter the console wars?
A: Nobody, because then it'd get way too confusing and there'd be more exclusives that'd you have to buy a whole separate console for.
Q: Nintendo is known for one thing…Milking franchises…When they stop doing that, we ask for a revival…So what in the blue hell do we want? Them Milking Franchises or coming up with new better/worst (*cough*Wiimusic*cough*) new franchises?
A: Simple. We want good games. And cupcakes.
Q: Favourite system/game/console of all time?
A: That's tough... I really don't have a favorite. If I'd have to chose I'd probably say SNES or the Xbox 360, as those are the three that I've played the most and had the most fun with.
Q: Favourite movie villain and video game villain
A: Darth Vader in movies. The David Prowse and James Earl Jones one... not that Hayden Christiansen bull. In video games, my favorite villain would have to be Majora, from Zelda. I know, odd choice, but think about it... it's a freaky mask that wants to destroy the world and possesses people to do it by essentially latching onto their face and turning them into a crazy hell-bent monster who can transform people into tree-dwarves. That's freaky.
Q: Best soundtrack in a game
A: Man, all these tough questions! There's so much good music to go through... it was really tough coming up with the Top Ten Video Game Themes, even with the g1s helping. However, I've always been partial to the Zelda music, from the first game up. The best musical scores are probably from Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess.
Q: What are your tastes in term of women?
A: They gotta be hot and slutty. Haha, just kidding. I guess the number one thing is that they gotta be fun to talk to. Of course, a girl's gotta look decent, have a sense of humor, and be cool with you or you're not gonna want to talk with her, so...
Q: G1’s…Are we the greatest ever? Why?
A: G1s ARE the greatest ever! Because without the g1s, ScrewAttack would be nothing. Not only do you g1s watch, enjoy, and critique our videos, you guys are part of an awesome community that, to be honest, I have no idea how it worked out so well! This is the only site I've ever logged onto that doesn't have flame wars left and right and such. You guys are AWESOME!!!
Q: Most stuff you guys do…Is NOT on the main page…Why not?
A: I dunno, most stuff we do is on the main page, so unless I completely got the wrong idea from this question, the stuff that's not on the front page is not there cause... it's... boring. Or something. I don't get it lolz.
Q: What did you dream of becoming as a kid?
A: I had many aspirations when I was little. First, I wanted to be a professional basketball player. Then, I wanted to be a drummer. Then, a book writer, which I still think I can do on the side. Then at the age of ten, I started making movies with my friends and my buddy Garret suggested that I should be a director when I grow up. The thought stuck, and nine years later, I'm still on that career's tail.
Q: Having the honour to be eaten by Jose, how did it feel? Anybody to thank?
A: I would like to thank Craig for putting me in the position to be eaten by somebody as large and disgusting s Jose. In response for his generosity, I will now proceed to kick him in the balls. Twice.
Q: First time u where seen in an video was an interview with Unaware Steve…I must say…I laughed my ass off…Did the greatness of Steve make u feel intimidated?
A: Haha! That was my very first day in the HQ! Jose and Mickey had already been in a few times, but the first second I walked in, Craig was like, “Hey Ben, this is Steve. Go with him.” I was so confused as I followed Steve to the pool... and then he started interviewing me in that crazy outfit and I instantly went “OMGWTF have I gotten myself into?”
Q: Craig or Tom was your favourite boss and why? (Give us a valid point please)
A: Well, to be honest, Tom wasn't much of a boss. He was just kind of... the cool top henchman who was in charge carrying out some of the boss's plans. Some of the time he didn't even come in. Craig was the guy who was always really in charge. I mean, when the split happened, us three had the choice to either follow Tom or stay with Craig. Tom's an awesome guy and all, but I think I made the right choice.
Q: How did the idea of Metal Gear Ben come about? - Hellman1O1
A: Craig actually came up with the original concept for the Clip of the Week. This was before COTWs became my responsibility. He just told me to sneak up on Jose, who'd eat me. I rolled around a bit, and the next thing I knew, the video was a huge hit. About a month or so later, I wanted to make a COTW with Destin sneaking around Game Xchange... I can't remember why, exactly. Destin told me that Metal Gear Ben should do it, instead. Keep in mind this was before MGB was considered a true separate character. I wrote, storyboarded, directed, and edited the COTW together, and to be honest, I was disappointed at first. I didn't think the MGB2 COTW was as good as I wanted it to be. Then it aired... suddenly everybody loved Metal Gear Ben like crack. Okay, maybe not like crack, but... enough to make me want to do something more with the character. I've got big plans for Metal Gear Ben!!! :-)
And now…for the g1 question of the week we got…What do you consider your greatest gaming achievements? By Tren
A: Picking up my first game, which was Sonic, and sticking to it. That, and going through Contra the first time without using the Konami Code! Pwned!!!
Thank you for your time Ben. Next time on the Radical Corner I will be interviewing The Joker and Jason…Well not really, Mike Matei!
Ben – Hey, thanks for the interview! It's always good to see g1s taking time to do cool stuff of any kind! Looking forward to your interview with M&M! Keep on rockin!
