Alright g1s I'm making a list of best shooters of all time this an be from any era of any time in video gameing. So I wanna hear your favorites. I was looking for your favorites from first person, third person, and platforming games than any others but give me what you got. Remember have fun. Also please digg it if you wish. I'm also more looking for your favorite shooter character. Like master chief or Nathan Hale respectively.
Sooooo... what kind of other
Sooooo... what kind of other shooters were you expecting? Duck shooting? Western movies? LOL!
of course all shooters will be videogames, since... well, all shooters ARE videogames! :P kind of an unnecessary statement, in my humble opinion, but ok, for the state of clarity, it has to be there... don't want those dang western spaghetti fanatics hangin' in here! :P
and what kind of shooters are you looking for? rail shooters? first person? third person? platform shooters? horizontal shooters? there are quite some different genres in the "shooter" department (I'm sure I'm forgetting a few :P), and they're not even comparable between themselves, so I'm just gonna throw in some names for each genre :P I'll explain why I loved them later if you'd like :P
Rail Shooters: Time Crysis 2
First Person: Half-Life, Doom, Serious Sam
Third Person: Max Payne
Platform Shooters: Duke Nukem - Manhattan Project
Horizontal Shooters: Empire of Steel, for the Sega Genesis (I'm betting almost no one knows this one... but I really enjoyed it!)
Peace, I'm out... for now! :P
I'd call Time Crisis a Light
I'd call Time Crisis a Light Gun shooter and a rail shooter would be like Star Fox and Panzer Dragoon.
Oh and I have Empire of Steel, good game with a cool alternative history twist. IMHO the best horizontal shooter on the Genesis is Lightening Force AKA Thunder Force IV.

I'm an old school gamer, but I'm still hip. Wait, when referring to oneself as, "Hip", does it reverse its meaning?
still being hip
If you feel hip then it doesn't matter if you say it. Thanks for the comments by the way.
actually, there's not much
actually, there's not much difference between Light Gun Shooters, and Rail Shooters... the shooting concoption is different, but you follow a pre-determined path in both, and enemies sort of pop up onscreen. don't think there are enough differences to make them different genres ;) I'd consider them one and the same, for the sake of simplicity. I don't think ppl wanna know what's the best light-gun-shooter-where-you-play-a-dog-and-throw-grenades O_o
and yeah, now that you mention it, Thunder Force 4 was a kickass game... alas, never played it, only saw it on magazines, so I really can't say how great it was playing it, lol :P Empire of Steel was one of the few horizontal shooters I played (never liked them much... too many R-Type frustrating memories! :P), and damn it felt great. didn't think the difficulty curve was too high, and its small cutscene-like moments, and overall atmosphere made for a very nice game =) plus, flying a zeppelin kicks ass! :D
I'm asking for
I was looking for shooters from platforming, first person, and third person. I would also like to know why you like those games.
Do you mean like Contra and
Do you mean like Contra and Gunstar Heroes?

I have one thing to say.
Just the very idea of not having DooM at the top of an FPS list is utter HERESY.
Unless, you know, it's a list of the best shooters BESIDES DooM.
Third person would probably be Star Wars Battlefront.
Sidescrolling would be Metal Slug X.
And I have NO idea what my favorite light gun shooter would be, I've only played like, three, and never got the names of any of them.
well, of course Doom has to
well, of course Doom has to be there :P I just don't think we should be blinded by the revolution that Doom started, and its overall importance to the genre. don't get me wrong, Doom was THE game back then, but a lot of other great games took giant revolutionary steps in pushing the genre to what it is today.
Take Half-Life for instance. HL was extremely important in the way FPS's began to have deep and complex stories, instead of the "kill 50 gazilion beasts in one room, on to the next. oh and grab some keys while u're at it" way most FPS's were structured back then (there were FPS with huge stories before HL, they just weren't as commercially successful as HL :P). HL told a story, and an engaging one at that. and that's how it contributed so greatly to what FPS are today, and there's a few more games as important as that (sorry Halo fans, but Halo isn't one of them :P I love the game, the story, the atmosphere, but it was only revolutionary in the way console FPS were made, and nothing truly extraordinary for a PC shooter. it's still great, though... just not a landmark :P).
games we really shouldn't forget, even if by personal reasons only (I love Serious Sam especially because it was a throwback to times where FPS were simpler, in a time when all the games coming out were all so complex :P see? a good thing can turn bad if done too much! :P).
Well...
Duke Nukem 3D, Doom, and Contra.
