Many months ago, I hated RPGs. All of them. ESPECIALLY Final Fantasy. But then, I heard that Paper Mario (a RPG) was really good. Being a fan of Mario, I bought it off the virtual console. It was the first RPG I liked. So, I looked into other RPGs.
Remembering Ness from Smash Bros, I decided to try out EarthBound. I checked Ebay and couldn't believe it: average $50 for a bare-bones copy! D: I looked into EarthBound more and got more interested. I learned of Mother, the Japanese-only prelude, and decided to give it a go. I searched for fan translations and quickly discovered that Nintendo had (almost) finished the game for release here, but it was cancelled. I tracked down the ROM and played through it twice, loving everything about it.
Now fast forward to now. About a week ago, I got a SD reader/writer so I could load Homebrew on my Wii. Anyone else do this? Its awesome. It has emulators, cheat codes, can play DVDs, games, load games from other regions... I'm getting off track. So anyway, I put Mother/EarthBound Zero on it and played it like a VC game. A Wii remote is much better than a keyboard =p So I beat it again, and a few days ago, I started on EarthBound/Mother 2 (yes, with a ROM/emulator, sue me) and am currently about halfway through.
I picked a perfect time to get a sudden obsession with it, because there is a fan project that has just finished their english translation of Mother 3 (also Japan-only)! They're testing it now, so probably by the time I finish EB, it will be out so I can get right on it! Yaaaaaaay. :D
Speaking of sudden obsessions, this happened to me with MegaMan. I had Anniversary Collection and X collection, beat all the games on both, bought Zero, Zero 2, Legends 2, and X7 (sorta), and I got tired of it before I even finished them. ... I'm getting off track again. Moral of the story is..... well, there isn't one. :/
