Okay, so I dug out the game and re-beat it. been a while. Took about 3 hours, and I repeated stage 6 6 or 7 times. Yes, Jaquio is hard.

So, tips for those places everyone dies a lot:
The "impossible" spot on 6-2: Once you see the knife-thrower, stop, and start inching forward until he falls off-screen. He'll now be gone for good. This will happen before the bird appears. Now, move forward to the very edge of the platform, as the bird spawns, and duck at the edge. The bird will miss you. Jump over the next two pits, slashing the jumping ninja as you go, and wait at the pillar (preferrably ducking) for the bird to pass over you if it's uncomfortably close. Then jump to the ladder and climb it.

The end of 6-3, right before the boss: You won't get your life refill before the boss unless it's your first time facing him, so you need to clear this room with as much life as possible. Get to the end of the second-to last room with more than half your life remaining, and the upward fireball. Grab the energy refill at the beginning if you don't have full health, kill the enemy with the fireball from the ground, then hit the container with the hourglass with the fireball from the ground as well, before the enemies spawn from the ceiling. Now, run to the right and grab the hourglass, and the falling enemies will JUST miss. Now run like hell, and get to the top of the big structure to the right before the hourglass runs out. You don't want the enemies to spawn from the ceiling before you've climbed up. Jump down on the other side of the structure, wait for the axe-thrower to walk off-screen, then inch forward until the karate dude spawns, and kill him. Now run like hell to the right and in the door, taking as little damage as you can. If you're up against the demon, grab the shuriken on your way, if you're up against Jaquio, keep the upwards fireball.

Jaquio: Bring as many upwards fireballs you can, they give you some free hits. Basically, you want to run towards him as he flies towards you, passing him in the middle of the room, this will make his fireballs miss. The best way to hit him is by running from the right edge to the left as he flies from left to right, and after he's tossed his fireballs, jump onto the middle pillar and towards the right hitting him. You take a ton of damage from touching Jaquio himself, so avoid that at all costs. The fireballs just deal 1 point. He's not easy, but once you get this pattern down, he's managable.

The final boss: Much easier if you have shurikens, two hits from those will knock his head off, and his tail takes relatively few hits, too. Make sure to destroy his tail before you attack his body, then it's just a matter of jumping and slashing while dodging his fireballs. He's not hard.

AVGN is just a character.  James beat this game.

Are you sure? He said he couldn't do it on his site...

Maybe he was talking about just the time he had for recording the video though.

I'm sure.  On Mike Matei's Facebook page, he posted pics of both he and James posing in front of the last screen.

The caption on FB reads:  "Here's James and I beating Ninja Gaiden 2 for the new video"

EDIT:  I realize now the post people have been referring to is about beating the first game, and not the second, but either way, it's an accomplishment.  Beating Ninja Gaiden 2 without save states means you're an 8-bit, platforming bad-ass.

Has James beaten Ninja Gaiden 1? Those pictures just show that he and Mike beat Ninja Gaiden 2.
I might go about getting Ninja Gaiden for my NES.

I can understand James frustration for this game, it is ridiculously hard to complete, i only completed the 3rd in the series... talk about the wrong way to complete a series of games.

Keep it real. NES

He described the game pretty much exactly how anyone who has played Ninja Gaiden felt about it, awesome episode. The game is a lot easier to beat when playing it on virtual console thanks to being able to start at 6-1 when you start the game, but even then it's pretty difficult.
