Fan expo Canada 2009 Wow what a weekend I had…. IT WAS AMAZING! If most of you don’t know what fan expo Is, it’s a convention that showcases anime fest, fear feast, game con, comics, and sci fi. This event happens once a year in the Toronto convention center. So I am going to post my experience of the event over the 3 days of going. Day 1 Friday 8 am My 3 friends and I woke up at 8 so we could get the convention early to get the deluxe passes, which lets you in the convention 2 hours early. So after I *****ed from waking up so early my friends David (fruitolong) , William (exzer) , and Kevin (dragan) got their gear on, they went in a steam punk outfit (sorry about the quality the first day pics was taking with David’s ****ty camera…) and lastly me with my Luigi hat , we set off to the expo! We had to take the transit to the place, since none of us wanted to find parking, and while riding the bus and train we got the weirdest looks possible….. It was quiet funny though. After about an hour later we finally hit the expo and we feel normal there because everyone is in cosplay! there was links, Mario, samus, a ton of random anime chicks , FF7-10 , a ton of star wars, star trek, and kingdom hearts. We found our way to the ticket line and since we was about 2 hours early before it opens we just sat down and played Mario kart with 5 others that was also waiting in line, I won BTW :P. we meet some cool people and chilled with a group who had a chick dressed as link, does it make me gay if I thought she was hot? (David and link) Unfortunately she was there with her BF…. That was the main story for most of the girls there was they was ether there with a group of friends or with their BFs…. But the good thing was her BF was a huge gamer so we got into debates about different scenarios in games. So once 2pm rolled around they opened up the doors to the vender area. All I can say is HOLY **** BATMAN! This place was huge and packed with stuff! From comics and action figures to games and scary stuff, from the fear fest. We kind of split up into groups to hit every square inch of the place. Me and will head over to the gaming, while David and Kevin head over to the comics and hero clicks, I will explain a bit latter on that. Will and I had a list of games we wanted to pick up from the expo, AND DID WE EVER GET SURPRISED! There was one game store which just blew my mind away in the stuff they had. This store is located in new York, named video games new York retro and Import video game store, and boy did they have a lot of game ranging from old classes from the ps1, THAT HAVE NOT BEEN OPENED!, to imported games from china and Japan, he had copies of monster hunter 3 and much more. The game that was number 1 on my list that I have been looking for, for over 10 years, was Legend of the dragoon. When I asked him if he had a copy and he pulled out 10 new never been opened, still had the Sony seal on it, copies I nearly cried with joy. and the best part was it was only $29 with no tax added, in the expo there was ether tax included or none at all. So after nearly pissing myself with joy David came along and picked up a copy also. We then headed over to the gaming area. Just about all the companies were there, Sony who was showing off their ps3 slim and best of all I got to play the demo of God of war 3 :P Which was ******* amazing BTW. Sega who was showing off bayonetta, Nintendo was also there but I got no pics cause all it was, was showing wii sports resort… Also there were some gaming competitions there. WCG was doing halo, guitar hero and CS competitions. Sony and Nintendo also had a few competitions with Sony and SF4 and UFC 09, and Nintendo with brawl. I didn’t enter any of the competitions since going to the expo was a last min thing. As the day goes on we all spend around $300 on comics, action figures, games, and stuffed toys. A copy of deadpool A Mario and Luigi hats A toon link A Donkey Kong Some Metal gear solid action figures, from top left to bottom right, Fortune, Naked snake, ocelot, and Gurluckovich soldier. And lastly my copy of Legend of the dragoon David and will got a bunch of comics and Kevin spent over $300 in Hero clicks What this is is a table top game that you play with characters from DC and marvel universe. It is a really fun game to play. After we did our spending spree we headed over to the Q&A of WALTER KOENIG, who was in the star trek show. Now I am not a huge treky fan but Kevin and David is, so I got dragged along to this Q&A. I don’t really know who this guy is but he was quiet funny with telling his stories of him and William Shatner, so it was pretty cool. After that we headed over to another trek thing, which was a screening of a fan made Star trek movie with the cast of the trek people in it. I didn’t really know what was going on most of the time but the action scenes was really good and the movie wasn’t that bad for costing only 100 thousand to make. The funniest part of the movie was seeing Kevin face throughout the movie. It kind of looked like he was about to jizz in his pants… He said he loved it after. It was around 11 pm when the movie ended so we headed back to David’s house which was the home base. Day 2 After again me *****ing about waking up at 9 am again… we headed back to the convention, luckily my dad was able to give us a ride up there so we wouldn’t have to take the TTC (bus/train). As we was entering the doors I spotted a R2 D2 in the corner of my eye It was fully working with the lights and noises. So that was pretty cool seeing that. As we was heading down into the convention it must have been the Star wars day cause it was packed with dearth vadors and storm troopers :P A LOT as you can see :P. So we headed over to the Q & A of LEONARD NIMOY who played Spock in star trek. I must say though he was a very funny guy and told use about most of his life experiences. The best part was when someone brought up the cd collection that he did for the Star trek and she had all 6 of the records It was pretty cool how he signed every one of them. After that we headed over to the Pure pwnage booth to meet kyle and Jeremy (for you who don’t know who they are it is a internet series documentary on Kyle’s life as a ubergamer) and we got to play a match of Tetris against him, he won of course because he is the master at it, and got a picture with him also After that we meet up with another girl link who was with a bunch of Weeboo people (first off don’t mean to offended any one who likes stuff like that, also if you don’t know what this means its basically people who are so into Japanese anime they do like to do cosplay of the different character and do weird dances…..*shivers*, but I will say some of them were really hot, the chicks I mean :P) Of course David, Being the outgoing guy hooks up with her. Around 12 pm I remember that one of my favorite game reviewers was doing singings in the expo from 12- 3. This had to be the best part of my day! After waiting in line for about 2 hours, got a pick of a cool link with the statue from phantom hour glass I got to meet Victor Lucas and Scott from Reviews on the run and EP! The cool thing was these guys was really chill people, we got into a convocation about the new batman game, Video games live, and lastly of course I asked him if he heard about Screw attack. He somewhat new them cause he said he meet couple of the guys from some other convention. So that was cool. Lastly they both singed a Legend of Zelda T-shirt I picked up And took an amazing BROforce pic It was sooo amazing I was soo happy. And the funny part was when I was about to leave Scott had been giving a bag a chips from the G4 crew, and when I was about to leave he said “Nathan!” and threw his bag of chips at me and said “Don’t sell that on eBay!” I laughed and said bye. So after I nearly wet myself with joy I headed back to my friends who were in a Line for a Q& A with none other than Bruce Camble! Who is probably the greatest B listed movie star :P (evil dead series and a lot other bad movies…) His Q &A was ******* amazing I never laughed so hard in my life He is pretty much a dick but still funny. Some of the moments I remember is when someone threw up their evil dead t-shirt on the stage, and he was like “I have never had something like this thrown up on stage before, I usually get room keys and panties” then the guy asked him to sign it, and Bruce said “Get the **** out of here and go wait in line to get it signed like the rest”. Some of the other good moments was when someone made a comment about what is the worst movie you done out of all the bad movies… we all booed the guy and Bruce came up with a game where he would turn his back and we would all yell the worst ones. So first it was conga and he went into detail on how he hated that movie so much, then it was alien apocalypse, and lastly one of his spin offs he had done. Lastly someone asked him if he does any drinking games. Bruce made a comment on how he never drinks… lol… and then made up a game which was every time ash gets hurt in evil dead you have to drink some beer… more on that later on… after that Q&A they had a screening of My name is Bruce, which had its moments. After we just chilled in the lobby and talked to a lot of the other people who was there. I got some more pics of cosplay One of my favorite pics I took of link and the pirate from Zelda. It kind of looks like navi is right behind her :P As you can see allot of cosplay. There was a ton more but I couldn’t get everyone. Another cool pic I got was just as I was leaving that night was a battle of Cloud and master chief I would have gotten a better one of them with clouds sword on master chiefs weapon but some security guard broke it up cause they was blocking the entrance >,< So we headed back to David’s house and tried out Bruce’s drinking game while watching army of darkness….. And boy did we get smashed. Like every 2 seconds of that movie was him getting hurt…. David even puked cause of drinking to fast while having pizza… Day 3 10 PM After *****ing about having to wake up at 10, this time I got my mom to drive us down for the last day. We started off with going to a Q&A of another star trek guy ROBERT DUNCAN MCNEILL He was quite funny but nothing special. I believe he is the director of the series Chuck After that we got into the Q &A for BILLY DEE WILLIAMS who was lando from Star wars. He was quiet funny also He made a comment about how he thought that big worm mouth pit in empire strikes back looked like a ******…. So that was funny but eh… After that we got to hit the floor of the vender area again just to buy some things, I picked up some more gaming tee’s and an advance wars game for my ds. And checked out some of the other events that was going on Over by the Sony competition they had a chun-li handing out flyers Didn’t really look too much like her but eh. She was kind hot :P So that was the end of our 3 day journey into fan expo… was it worth it??? HELL YA it was the best time I have had in my life for a long time. Would I do it again???
