Top 5 Things the Internet Can't Live Without
By Impulse_101 on January 25, 2010, 8:27 pm
This is a top 5 list of things the internet could not live without in this Current day and age. Now when I mean the Internet, I mean the people that use it, not the Internet itself. I also mean browser based internet, so no MMO's, and no Runescape doesn't count either, because it fails.
Now let's begin.
5. Flash
Let's start this list with something fun. Flash, whether it be in an advertisement to give you viruses, or you need to pass the time while the boss isn't looking with some good 'ol flash games. Or you want to amuse yourself with the latest animations on Newgrounds.com. Flash has become an integral part of web browsing. It's everywhere and it makes everything more entertaining.
4. Forums
Forums are one of the most diverse yet common parts of said interwebs. You could be on the Screwattack forum, talking about your latest triumphs in Gaming, or just talking casual everyday things, not only is that just scratching the surface. That's just 1 site! There are millions of forums around the net talking about different things in different languages and so on. These forums have become an easy way to interract with other people and voice your opinion.
3. Trolls
Trolls create controversy, drama, and fun. Let me explain what a troll is, for those who are unaware. A troll is anyone on the internet that purposely makes remarks that will cause people to get angry and backlash. This is considered feeding the troll, because the angrier you get, the happier they are. Now it is considered a dick thing to do, and a crime of the internet. No one can say they've never trolled before, its just so much fun sometimes. The internet would lack character, and discussion without our underappreciated bad guys we love to hate. And sometimes Trolls are hard to detect, and the line between obvious troll, and true idiot is unclear. For example http://www.youtube.com/user/CopperCab is it a troll? Probably... but maybe not.
2. Video/Picture
With the short attention span of todays society most things on the internet are best shown as videos. I'm calling out atleast 80% of the people that read this blog that you did not read everything in these paragraphs, you just scanned through what I put where. Theres nothing Wrong with that, which is why I bolded some important phrases for those short spanned reader. Anyway, so to make things short, video is killing everything, but we still love it. Video is awesome.
1. 4Chan
But of course, 4chan is much more than that. Look beyond the trolls of /b/, and the weaboos of /a/. 4chan is the man in the shadows that makes the internet work, and disfunction. About 70% of memes come from 4chan (which is partly why its #1 because memes are so important), RickRolling, Over 9000, Barrel Roll, Argument Invalid, to name a few. The site challenged Scientology itself and kicked there ***** back to the imaginary planet they came from. They made numerous emo kids kill themselves (think of this what you will), made fox news look like retards on numerous occasions. And manipulated the naiveness that is present in the internet today. For example, Operation Youtube was initiated in May 2009, where Youtube was flooded with uploaded videos of pornography tagged with common things young children would search for (Eg. Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, Spongebob, Etc). Thus causing youtube and parents a like to fly into some crazy **** storm. In fact a 12 year old girl on youtube worded it best upon viewing one of these pornographic videos: "I'm 12 years old and what is this."
So whether you hate them or love them, 4chan in my honest opinion is the most influental part of the Internet.
Honerable Mention: Screwattack![]()
Which brings me to a quick question that you can answer in the comments with "A:" in front of it. Who is your favorite group of people to troll on the internet?
GOOD DAY SIR!

Don't get me wrong, both definitions of delicious cake are acceptable, but I am talking about a 'different' kind.

Dude, promoting 4chan is really bad, but promoting 7chan is you're-going-to-hell bad.

Ironically, Wikipedia has even banned Scientology from making any updates to any part of the site.
Anyways, what other church or religion that we know of has a Navy?!? Or forces members to pay a membership fee?

Since when does the Religion of WoW have a navy? I know you pay to be a member of the religion, but I don't think you get the benefits of slave labor about a ship.

Viruses. Whether they are just virus jokes that change your settings, just to tease you for a while, or the evil creation that corporate and independent minds have created, capable to destroy the integrity of a fully functional CPU, regardless of the type, brand or age of it, viruses are part of the internet ever since the beginning.
Starting as a simple joke for teasing the users on the first ages of the viruses, these were just harmless basical programming that messed with you, and even changed the appearance of your entire operative system...there were other viruses that made appear images or certain coding to show something after a time...Would you believe that this program coding, first to be used as a teasing and as a joke, would later be combined with John Socha's Screen Saving coding to create what we know in these modern days as "Screen Savers"?
Indeed, The viruses on the internet have made some achievements on the earlier years...but in these, so modern days, their use is but only for chaos or destruction...still, they are a thing the internet couldn't live without. What'cha think?

It's been around longer than almost all the big websites that are popular today. It was one of the earliest inspirations for making the internet a place to dump the most horrible and terrifying images and tales (i.e. Pico's School and all the other stuff Tom Fulp created in the late 90's.) It has a hilarious angry cussing ranter predating the AVGN (foamy the squirrel.) It was possibly THE first website to be based around "user generated content" which is, you know, kind of the absolute most important thing about the internet today. Oh and it also spawned a good number of memes itself. Like, numa numa dance? Yeah, started on Newgrounds.

I'd say Newgrounds is one of the biggest internet influences. Of course, this is almost the exact same thing as "Flash," flash is what Newgrounds revolves around.
