Top 10 Video Game Title Screens & Opening Cinematics

By CronoT on November 5, 2009, 4:46 pm

I hope you all like this. I've been working on it for about 2 weeks. Writing it was easy. Finding the videos was slightly less easy. The voice-overs took SEVERAL takes on almost every one. I should have saved some of the voice-over bloopers for you all.

Well, one thing I'll say is that I like the idea, it's certainly a Top Ten that hasn't been overdone, which is what drew me to it in the first place.

The Resident Evil one was annoying because you had the voices playing behind your voiceover. I think you would've been better muting it until you were down talking, then fading it in. The Mega Man 2 was brilliant, great timing at the end, I would've actually faded the audio UP right when you were done talking.
SonicBoom, same problem as RE.

I guess I might as well leave it at that as far as the audio goes. Your voiceover is fine, it's just some audio balancing that could be done on pretty much every section.

Defintely agree with Sonic CD and Mega Man 2 being on there. Sonic CD's intro was one I never saw until Sonic Mega Collection came out and even then it blew my pants off. SMB3 bit is interesting, where did you find that out? I feel like the music in the GBA version's title screen was better, but I have to agree that its simplicity was definitely an attention-grabber for the era. It even incorporated the gameplay elements into it. FF6's? Also totally epic.

Super Metroid, also amazing intro. The TP intro is definitely very elegant and amazing, and I have to agree, it also brought me near to tears in a creepy way, and even now, just having watched it again, I got goosebumps. I don't consider myself some kind of uber fanboy or anything either, it's just a really well-done intro, but a big part of that is that it elicits the nostalgia of the Zelda series as a whole very brilliantly with the way its presented while also giving us this foreboding feeling.

Anyway, cool feature, like the idea, great choices in there, too. Just tweak the fade-ins and such of your audio levels and it'll be more solid.

Some great intros represented here. It was nice seeing Star Ocean on here, I remember that opening fondly. I would start suggesting intros that spring to my mind, but there's so many good ones out there to choose from. I think you did a great job picking what you did here.

The audio was kinda funny at times, like during #9 I could barely understand what you were saying. It kept fading in and out for some reason. Minor issue though, I think this kicked ass =D.

You were great and you have the perfect voice for doing videos like these.

I agree with pretty much all of you choices and Zelda is definitely a great #1 choice. One intro that I liked that was not included was the Contra title screen with the 5 seconds of music. But I understand that you were aiming for overall quaity.

I agree with your #1 pick. I started up the game for the first time, watched the opening and knew that the game was going to rock.

Very nice list!

I was definately surprised to see the Megaman 2 intro so low, though. It easily set the bar for many, many video game intro screens to come. Ah well =]

You may want to consider adding a small introduction at the beginning of your list in your next top 10, though (please tell me you'll make another one? =D). This one just kinda jumps right into it with no explanation of that the hell you're talking about...

Just my two cents.
