Bertram's Favorite Albums (30) [Complete Set 3]
By TheBertRam on February 8, 2010, 8:00 pm
Well another 10 of these blogs have been finished, it's actually quite surprising I really wasn't expecting to really make this series ever get this far. But here we are and there is still many more albums to do, and I'm normally getting new music every once and a while. So I'm not going anywhere.
This will be my first attempt at bringing my favorite series of blogs over to V4, so I'll start with what I've been listening to lately. It's mostly been black with a little bit of "Boulder Rock" (my new term for stoner rock) sprinkled over.
Brocas Helm - Defender of the Crown

Song: Cry of the Banshee
Ok if you've played Brutal Legend yet, then you know or may have heard this song, actually you have to listen to this song! Since it plays during the spider lair level, yeah that one now the awesomeness hits your brain and turns it into much after remembering how hard you banged your head to this band. Well this is the album it came off of, and boy is it good. It was also the only one by them I could get my hands on the rest are either out of print or were crazy expensive and I would never buy them since it'd not such a good use of a little near $100. But this one is a bit more reasonable, to not only find but to get as well. But this is just good ol' heavy metal with the epic range of vocals and the amazing riffing, and the bass is quite strong on this album as well which always brings a smile to my face.
Church of Misery - Houses of the Unholy

Song: Born to Raise Hell (Richard Speck)
Now this is a band I've been listening to a while now but just recently got some more of the recent albums and a couple Ep's. But this is a lil' ol band from japan that plays some good "Boulder" doom metal, and they pull it off great even with the rough vocal style that matches what the rest of the band quite well! This band does have a niche though, and if you listen to the track you may get it, their songs are normally about serial killers, and they use sound clips at the beginning to set the mood of their songs to the killer. The subject matter does seem quite metal but the way the play sometimes just makes it all feel so rock and roll, since the guitarist and well the whole band just plays together so great. On one of their EP's they have a jam session song and it's ******* amazing and it's long to boot. So I guess if you want to learn more about some serial killers or just want to listen to some amazing metal, then pick this up, since this is their newest album!
Immortal - Pure Holocaust

Song: As the Eternity Opens
What did you think that'd it all just be nice sounding things, wait I was just talking about serial killers and now I have corpse painted individuals playing Black Metal, this really is a random grouping. Well if you like Black Metal then you've heard of these guys, some like them some don't me I like them since they seem to be pretty consistent with making good material. Now you may be looking at the album art thinking wow these guys are ****, well stop that thinking now since there only doing it for effect and to have a better ambiance on stage. But now to the album this is there second LP, I think and it's great my favorite no, but pretty high up there. So if you like black metal then you already have your opinion of these guys but if your new to the genre this band is a good place to start, also you'll be seeing more from these guys if you keep looking at my blogs, but don't worry not to much since I like to have a nice group of different things but sometimes a good theme comes along and well they may just fit the bill.
Jex Thoth - Jex Thoth

Song: Son of Yule
Talk about another great band to come out in this decade, it seems I'm just starting to find a bunch of bands that are starting now and being wonderful like this band, and yeah that's a girl singing and it's great! This band you can tell has an old style sorta sound but brings some new elements to it. But this band just needs to get working on some new material, since I can't stop listening to this album! I'm also surprised, again, that there not well known enough yet! Comon people turn your radio off and go looking for those gems out there, there's probably enough great stuff for everyone to have there own favorite band without another person knowing what it is, but instead everyone just turns on MTV and goes hey that's ok so I guess that'll work. And that's been done enough times that even indie people are getting noticed more than the bands that aren't trying to appeal to hipsters and the such. Sorry for the mini-rant.
So I hope you enjoyed this and I would think my old ones, but the switch to V4 sorta ruined them so I'm going to keep going up in number and will keep the blogs but will not post them here since they look so silly now. So see ya later g1's and I hope something here appealed to you.
DARK, YET SOME ODIDTY: This had some of my favorite albums that were a bit darker, like Ulver yes I know the albums about wolves but I've read the english lyrics(the actual song is in norwegian) and they're quite dark. But the strangeness comes from me putting a Classical Northern Indian album, by one of the best Sitar players I've ever heard. I think really the fact that I even put it on here surprised a couple people.
Yes I hath returned! So anyways here is another fun lil' pile of music that I've been listening to, since I really have some catching up to do with all of the new music I've gotten since the last one of these and by last one of these I meant my 20th.
Ulver - Nattens Madirgal

Song: Hymn 1: Of Wolf and Fear
This is black metal at it's finest from a band that only did black metal for one album. This band is very weird since they start off doing all of this great material, with some nice folk and this black metal masterpiece, then go to electronica and movie soundtracks. Another reason why, to me this is a masterpiece, since it captures everything I love about black metal the complete and utter raw quality of it, and actually quite intricate guitar work. The drums though are a big let down, since there drowned out and sound like there a mile away. Also the vocals are great! If they kept doing black metal after this they would have become even bigger legends that this one album has already made them! And yeah I got a bit of black metal recently and have been digging around for all the good stuff, and I've found a stockpile of great stuff but don't worry I won't put to much on here since I know everyone is not a fan.
The Lamp of Thoth - Cauldron of Witchery

Song: Blood on Satan's Claw
The song provided is on the album but it's only a live version, and yes it sounds even better than the actual recording this band is just that true to there sound and damn good at playing. Yes, this is another band that is playing in traditional doom style, so what I love it and this style is apparent in many old favorites. So you should love this if your not already realizing that it's very hard to find any of there music. I even went to there record label and they didn't even say when more of there stuff was going to come in stock which made me very angry! This band is so wonderful and the vocals are something different, which always make's music more memorable for me. Also if you couldn't tell most of there lryical content are occult or old 80's B-movies, which are some of my favorite themes, in music.
Brant Bjrok and the Bros. - Saved By Magic

Song: Make the Pony Trot
Every-time I hear him I remind myself that I have to get more, yet always forget after listening since I'm so dazed and "chilled" out from this simple yet wonderfully put together riffs. So if your into Boulder Rock then you already know the legend that is Brant Bjork and the band he used to play in, Kyuss the band that pretty much created the genre by accident. Also if this has appeared on here I'm sorry but I don't think it has, so just sit back and relax. This album also reminds me of my summer very laid back, with it's high intense moments that are in short bursts, and with the lake nearby there was always a cool breeze blowing on my face. So if you want something laid back yet still hard, then pick up anything this guy makes it's all gold.
Nikhil Banerjee - Lyrical Sitar

Yeah no song name provided, since it was mostly him just jammin. Also yes this is still the same Bertram that's been doing thing's before I just finally found some amazing sitar players, also a lot of people were surprised when I said I liked this style. Also it's amazing how complex this style is as well, they just about a name for everything they do and a strict beat pattern for each song, so you know how fast it will be and what time of day to play it in so it will work the best. Yeah you read that right it's all a religious thing, now me I'm not crazy about any religion but with music like this please sign me up! Also this is a sitar legend at it's finest he's been making amazing music, that is surprisingly hard to find, for years. And yes I know itunes has it, it just has so much I don't have the kind of money to get it all so I got this first and have been sent a trip through the deepest recess of my mind. You can expect a sitar song on one of my The Shapes Match the Sound.
So I hoped you all enjoyed it, I certainly did making it. And I'll post all new V4 ones below since all the ones from V3 are pretty screwed up but still readable sorta.
COLD AND HOT: My main theme for this blog was going to be winter based albums, but it all went to **** when I started realizing I could just put albums that made me feel much warmer, I may have not really said that but I certainly implied it.
Bathory - Blood on Ice

Song: One Eyed Old Man
I've been listening to Bathory for a long ass time, but haven't really had the time to listen to his other stuff or maybe I was afraid to step away from his Black Metal albums, and listen to his Viking metal ones like this. Also fun fact he was one of the originators of both Black and Viking metal what career am I right. But this album is of course a concept album and pretty much every song has it's own picture right there on the cover so I guess SEE IF YOU CAN NAME THEM ALL! But really like any other Viking metal album it's full of epic vocals and lyrics about norse ideals. Even though out of his Viking metal albums his real gems have to be Nordland I and II, but I haven't gotten to them yet so I'm fine with this one for now, but who knows it may be in my next one.
Budgie - Budgie

Song: Homicidal Suicidal
Yes if any fans remember a long time ago I said all of Budgie because I was lazy and didn't know what album to pick, well now that I've let them sit with me I've realized what ones are my FAVORITE. But this is a great 70's band that was overlooked and seemed to really not even give a **** and just kept making albums. Also all of there albums either have to do with a Budgie (which is a bird) or the album cover does, so as you can see it's a bird man riding a horse, WAIT WHAT! Yeah this band is that cool, and there songs are even more bad-ass. If your looking for a good place to start with this band, pick up this album but if it's to hard to find then go for In for the Kill, it has some of there more popular songs, like the ones that were in Brutal Legend.
Cactus - Cactus

Song: Parchman Farm
I don't think I ever put them on my fav. albums before but whatever it's a great album. Also this band got over looked for sounding too much like Led Zeppelin, and it was also the first really good or rock n' roll Super Group. They only made a couple albums but are still doing shows so they know what's best for there fans. It seems like I'm in a old 70's bands mood today so sorry if you utterly hate all the bands that make your favorite bands sound good. The vocals this group do sound so weird in a good way and you just can't help but want to keep listening to what he has to say, and yeah I've probably said that about another band before but it's the truth. So if you aren't tired of old 70's hard rock yet, then go out and pick this up! I mean it, or you could just get it on itunes.
Manilla Road - Crystal Logic

Song: Necropolis
Amazing, true heavy metal, and must have are not even close to the amount of words need to explain how great this band is. You can thank one of my friends for finding this band and then turning me onto them, he's more addicted to them but that's because he's spent more time with them. Yet in due time I'll be as addicted the problem is they have so many albums it would take up like 4 of my fav. albums to really explain them all, even though I could just put them all into one. Anyways this album is of course talking about mystical and magical things like some "epic" bands make there lyrics about. You know swords and magic and the such. But really if your a fan of metal at all you'll be doing yourself a favor by getting anything by this band, and then playing it on repeat for the rest of your life.
So I hope you enjoyed this even the slightest amount, and if you were even able to find this that's good enough in the ****-storm that has become V4's blog/video system. And of course I'll leave the other ones below just in case you sly dogs missed one. And also I'll be doing more shapes match sounds, and hopefully another fav. band even!
HOW BERT GOT HIS GROOVE BACK: By this blog I was starting to get used to the dark murky waters V4 was at the beginning of it all. I finally figured out lots of tricks on how to make my blog look better, but I still think that centering these blogs would make it look just too normal and boring, so I still stray away from that if anyone is interested.
I think I'm starting to get into the groove of blogs again, so here I am making another favorite albums, before my christmas special one where I show you guys my favorite ones I got for christmas. It probably won't be out on christmas day, since I have to listen to what ones will be my favorite, so look for that.
Astra - The Weirding

Song: Ouroboros
Where to begin, with the amazing album art by Arik Roper one of my favorite artist's of all time. Then there's there sound you can tell it's progressive, but did you know that it was early to late 70's. No this band is not that old, but if you like this then please do some research about bands of our past and realize the greats that never were there. Ok this album is wonderful it takes you on a journey and that's exactly what music is suppose to do! This song though is my favorite on the album, and is one of the longest as well. I think this album mostly came to me because one of my favorite record labels Rise Above records was showing off some of there new artist's and I was just sitting there listening to all the doom they had to offer, but then to my surprise this wonderful piece of music showed up and bam! They got themselves a new fan.
The Gates of Slumber - Conqueror

Song: Children of Satan
Yes that would be Conan the conqueror, and yes this album is as amazing as that album cover. This is one of my new favorite doom bands, and again I heard of them from a band that's really good friends with them. Also the song takes a couple seconds until it gets to the main riffing so if you want to skip ahead a little bit in the song that's ok by me. Anyways, this album is crushing and the vocals are memorable. The guitar work has some great riffing once and a while, but this is there first full length so cut them a little slack for some bad-parts. So I guess if you like good ol' heavy metal or are interested in some traditional doom metal those are two good reasons to go and listen to this album at least, its on itunes if your that lazy. I'm kidding, really the track I provided is enough to see if you like the band or not.
King Diamond - Them

Song: Tea
I find it funny that this singer goes from satanic things to ghost stories, but he is an amazing story teller and this is one of his best "stories" or albums if you wish. So the track I provided won't make to much sense if you want to understand the story, but it is an amazing metal song with very good vocals I mean ****! Listen to this guy hitting those high notes and all! This album is about a mansion that is full of ghosts and the things that take place there, I'd say it's one of his best stories, but others may say Abigail is better. Whatever go and listen this is some damn fine metal at it's best. Also one of metal's best singers I know it's not growling or just plain normal it's Super high or just at a nice normal pace that is still memorable enough. Then the other musicians in the band are amazing, except they sorta get overshadowed by the fact of King Diamond and this being his band.
Weedeater - And Justice For Ya'll

Song: Monkey Junction
I know what you must be thinking "Wow I think weed is bad for you so this album and Bertram in general must suck!" First off I don't smoke anything, and also this album is great they may be called Weedeater but they make some amazing Boulder Doom. And this being there first album the vocals aren't as rough as there newer ones, so I thought some people might like it more for that or maybe even less. Either way this is some heavy amazing stuff here, from yes a super drug influenced band but a memorable one either way. HAHA The lead person's last band was called Bongzilla if your interested. Here's another fun fact for ya, the lead singer sometimes vomits on stage, on purpose just to get the effect of a song across. If that isn't dedication or get stagmanship then what is! So I'm sorry if I offended anyone with this, but it truly is some awesome sounding music and very heavy as well.
I hope you g1's out there enjoyed something here, and get ready for my 25th and probably 26th where I'll be showing you guys some stuff I ordered for christmas. And yes I will do another Shapes match the sound here soon, and maybe even a fav. band. So see ya later g1's.
HO-HO OH! PART I: Here I finally got some of the overwhelming sense out of me, after finally listening to some or most of the CD's I got for Christmas. Oh boy it was quite a christmas, I got even more CD's than I ordered (the company gives you free stuff if you order a lot). And I just wanted to begin the slow showing of it all to really just d1g1c0ck at this moment in time.
Sorry it seems like I've sorta just disappeared for a week or so, but christmas goodies have kept me busy. I am also back to share some of my goodies with you, or at least the CD's I got some of them you'll like some you'll hate, but we can't all be the same with musical tastes. I may also put some albums in there that I didn't get for christmas, but albums that you all still haven't seen so let's go!
Baroness - Blue Record

Song: War, Wisdom and Rhyme
Yes this may seem mainstream, and it really is the most mainstream group of albums I got. But there said to be similar to mastodon, and on some songs I'd agree but when you really get down to it they never could be since for one they started before them and sound much better. The album though is more progressive than there last ones which were more sludge, which I may find better, but this album is still amazing I mean it starts with this album art that you can find so many hidden secrets in, and then the music begins and you know that your going for a ride. Another plus, for me at least, is that each track flows into each other like this album is trying to be a waterfall and each track is just going down into one another. The vocals also are a little rough at times and pretty similar to mastodon, but again I can get over that since he has some sorta flair that I like. So if you like some progressive sludge, which is something new to me, then pick this up yes they are a lil' mainstream but there good.
Causa Sui - Summer Session's Vol 1

Song: Soledad
I'm hoping to put at least the last two volumes, in the next two fav. albums since each are different and each are amazing. You should know first off that these albums have no lyrics to speak of, but they don't need them since these songs take you on trips you wouldn't even believe. So yes they will be appearing in a TSMTS. This album, seemed like of course an introduction to summer and it certainly works like that. I mean the album starts off with a 22 min song, that's so stunning you won't want to stop listening. Well that is if you like psyche, and if not then you may think of this album as really groovy. So think of this as spring going into summer when listening, since all 3 are on itunes if you were wondering.
Minotauri - Minotauri

Song: Frustrated
As you may know I'm a super doom fan so when I saw this on the allthatisheavy I almost pooped a lil', It was also a bit expensive but a worthwhile purchase for me as least. Since it's 15 songs of amazing classic doom. The first thing you may notice, is that you can tell the singer has a very heavy scandinavian accent. I mean I've heard many singers from that area, but never one that strong I mean if he wasn't singing english then it would sound normal. Except the fact that his accent is so strong makes it all the better, since then you can always tell what band it is. Also this album is extremely heavy, well I guess it has to be, to become a doom metal classic. So you already know my verdict of this album, so you know if you want this or not.
Six Organs of Admittance - Compathia
.jpg)
Song: Close To the Sky
Talk about laid back, this guy comes from an insane psyche band and makes this laid back band that just takes you nice slow trips. This is his more normal album, since his other ones are normally really long songs that take you down many dark, and strange trips. It's always all acoustic with other instruments coming in every once and awhile, but it's normally just his voice and his guitar. He's also quite amazing since the only work I normally connect with acoustic guitar's is country, so he's surprised me with making amazing music with mostly only an acoutic guitar, well done my fine sir. So if you like the track provided, sorry it's live, then pick up any of his albums there all great.
I hope I provided something that you liked. I'll be having more since I got a lot of CD's for christmas, so see ya later g1's.
Ok I know, I know I haven't done much lately and haven't even started a new TSMTS, so I feel even worse about that. But hopefully this may make up for it, since I am again going to show some more albums I got for christmas.
Against Nature - Accumlus

Song: A Certain Doubleness
Well this I got for free LEGALLY! Since it was from the record companies main site, and you should know I couldn't buy some of them anyways since most of them are sold out, because they don't make many copies of them. So they thought why not make it easier and just go free. Yeah so I guess this is pretty underground, and there labeled as Progressive Doom which is something I'm not to familiar with, since it just sounds like good ol' doom to me. Also I'm still getting through there very large catalogue of music, since they've been known to release 4 albums in one year, yeah how about that for a band that releases pretty much everything for free download on there site. This band though is some of the members from a doom band from the same record label, called Revelation. I was able to find and purchase some Revelation, who I will feature in this blog. You may notice some similarities but trust me there sounds are completely different, after listening to a couple of there albums. So if your interested in this band, or just want to see what else the site has to offer ask for the link in the comments, since I don't feel like putting it here for people that don't really want it.
Causa Sui - Summer Sessions Vol. 2

Song: Tropic of Capricorn Part 2
Yeah and you thought I'd forget to continue doing these sets of albums, well there's only one more volume after this. This album's theme is more of like the middle of the summer, it also has more of there "rocking" tracks. Again there are no vocals just sax, guitar, bass, and drums just jammin' away to make such wonderful music that can and does take you away. Also sorry for not providing an entire track (I really had this song I wanted to chose from the album but this'll do) also sorry for the ****ty quality, and if you can tell that's part 2 out of 3 and each run around 8 mins each, so yeah that's one long song that gets progressively better over time. It starts slow but then gets faster, and better in my opinion. So this album has more "heat" than the others would, since it's suppose to be about that hottest part of the summer, even though some of the tracks on this album cooled me off a lot more. The addition of the sax really adds a lot of different possibilities that I wasn't expecting, which makes it seem on some songs that they were influenced by King Crimson. Once again if you want this or want to listen to other tracks from this album, these sessions are a lot of places now I mean there even on itunes so check them out if your interested.
Comets on Fire - Comets on Fire

Song: The Way Down
This super psych band's debut is certainly something, it's at some points almost impossible to listen to, but you can tell there's some good stuff underneath all that fuzz and strange effects. Please note thought that this band has changed their sound a lot from this album, I got three albums from them and this is the mediocore ear-rape one, I have another that it is literally impossible to listen to the first couple of songs without wanting to skip the song or speed it up to get through it faster. And this is coming from someone who has the patience and likes to listen to drone, or a single note that goes on for way over ten minutes. But I really like this album, it took a lil' time but after a few listens I found myself an instant fan. It also helped that I got another album by them called Avatar and that's not only easier to listen to, but a little bit better to listen to. So if your looking for something different, and something a bit more new-wave psyche than come on and pick this beauty up. It has a rough outside but a gooey delicious inside.
Revelaton - Salvation's Answer
Song: Poets & Paupers
As you can tell from the cover this is a doom band HAHAHA. No but seriously this has become one of my new favorite doom bands, and quite quickly. After reading the booklet inside explaining some of the bands past, it's quite sad but to them they had the most fun on this album and I'd agree since I had lots of fun listening to it. But like from up above Against Nature has members from this band, and hopefully you can see a difference in them. Many of the songs on this album are just wonderfully done, and not many doom acts have made me feel this good after listening to a song like this band has been able to accomplish. So if your in the neghiborhood for some new doom metal, then leave a comment down below since I think this album is on the same site as Against Nature, well if it's not then another album by this band will. OH and before you say anything Revelation albums I can find so I don't download them, since I am able to find them so YAY.
Ok I hoped you enjoyed this installment, and I'm going to start to put the links down below again so all you lil' people that missed out on my old ones can go back and relive the glory days of my first summer on screwattack and the previous months that lead up to this day.
DOOMY?: On this one I highlighted two doom bands mostly, and one was an old favorite and a new comer that I started the blog off with. I also put the summer sessions to rest, it was good while it lasted but Causa Sui has yet to make anything new at all!
I'm back once again, also I guess I lost a subscriber. If I did anything offensive to that person to make them do that I'm sorry just come on back, and I'll make it all better. Hopefully another one of these may get him or her :P back.
Warning - Watching From a Distance

Song: Watching from a Distance
Well let's just say I've found a new sound that comes to mind when I think of Doom metal, and that is Warning. Crushing is only the place to begin with this soul destroying music, also most of the lyrics are about relationships or whatever. I normally can't get into those types of sappy songs, but this is completely different you can really hear his pain in his singing, sorry if youtube destroys the quality of the song. I've been trying to get this album in particular for a while now, and I finally found it on one of my favorite CD sites and now that I have it I realize why it's sold out all the time. This is everything that doom metal should be and is, the crushing riff with the complimentary bass and drums just banging along to this mans hard-ships. It just puts me into this feeling that feels wrong, but oh so right at the same time. Sorta the feeling you get when you did something bad and got away with it, ahh yes guilt. The feeling of guilt over-flows within me, not the idea of it but the feeling and it feels so powerful, yet weakening at the same time! I'm not sure what more I could say about this amazing piece of music that to me will be a classic always.
Causa Sui - Summer Sessions Vol. 3

Song: Red Valley
The last in the summer sessions collection, but they go out with a bang! Again to me this feels like the end of summer, also by looking at the album art-work Causa Sui thought the same. Just the way that some of the instruments just have that cool low-fi feel to them, that just make this such a great album to make it summer once again even in a cold place, like Michigan(Aka where I live). The sax on this album doesn't feel as spastic and energetic as the last couple of albums more lazy or laid back, which again adds to my idea of this being a end of the summer album. This album just feels like you know summers about to end, but they don't want it to end so they just play so it seems to drag on in a good way! Again the jam feel on this is still there with no vocals present, and if they added vocals this far in it'd probably ruin it for me. These psych jams speak for themselves and THEY ARE MEANT TO BE LISTENED TO!
Dead Man - Dead Man

Song: Goin' Over the Hill
If any of you, not that any of my old fans are still reading these, remembers I showed off this bands sophomore album on one of my much much older blogs and I got good reactions. Just recently I realized they had a first album, since I thought that one I featured before was there first but oh was I wrong not only is there first better, but it's more in the vein of 70's! Sorry for the live clip that was the only thing available, but the song doesn't start till around the :30 mark, I'd say they sound very good live pretty close to the album and also better in some aspects. Anyways, yes this album is certainly trying to be like a 70's album and I'd say they did a wonderful job at it! The songs are amazing and much more "hard rock" than there last one, since on there last one I thought it was more alternative but this one just hits with riff after riff of awesome nostalgia. His voice yes has an accent which adds a different flavor to the song, that to some makes it worse but to me I like it because it's different in a positive manor. So if you like the way the live clip sounds pick this up, because the songs sound much better on the actual CD. Also Highway is one of there best songs and it wasn't even in live format so yep.
Reverend Bizarre - II: Crush the Insects

Song: Doom Over the World
Wow I guess after I made my Bertram's Favorite band of them I sorta just forgot to put them in to another one of my blogs, I feel so ashamed for putting probably one of my most favorite bands of all time on the sidelines. The track I provided is the only song by them that got a video ever, and it wasn't even the song that got them too big it was just there party esque song. This band to me is what doom metal has always been, and that's also what the band strived to do when they were still around. They were true doom all the time, and sabbath lovers but that comes with the label of being a True Doom band or traditional if you want to be correct. This is the one album that the members of the band didn't really like, even though it has some of there best song it also has some of there weakest. Except comparing songs by them is like comparing gold with diamonds. If you want to know a bit more about this band than check out my blog about themhere .
That is all for now my fellow music lovers, also don't worry I'll be doing another TSMTS soon enough, I've just been trying to choke down all the music I got over christmas and during that break. So see ya later g1's!
LIVE IS BACK IN DA BERT!: This blog was overshadowed by me and my happiness of my XBL finally getting to work again. It also caused this blog to be one of me later blogs in the series. Not to say that they're were a lot of late ones this time. Which is completely my fault, and hopefully I won't be so lazy in the future.
I'm back again! Sorry I've been late with this or really any blog, but I just got my live to start working again so I've been busy with that and other things. So without further ado let's begin another grouping of some of my favorite albums.
Budgie - Never Turn your Back on a Friend

Song: Breadfan
Another amazing album, with album art that has nothing to do with the actual album title! Anyways yes I've brought back one of my favorite Hard Rock bands that was overlooked during the late 70's till today! If you've played Brutal Legend than you may notice the track I provided, yeah it's so badass tim schafer couldn't help but not put it into the game! This album, is amazing certainly one of there best. I may also just be saying that because it's one of there albums with really long "jam" like songs, that go on forever AND I LOVE THAT! Really if you like Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath then please at least give these guys a listen, there really quite stunning once you get into them. And like I said, all these songs are jam like songs that all go over the 6 min mark, which if you've been a follower of my blogs then you may notice that I like the longer songs. It makes my money feel more well spent on something, sorta like how someone feels good or that there money was well spent after seeing a long movie. This album also has some softer parts to it, that make a lot of the longer songs feel much more refreshing and listenable.
Comets on Fire - Avatar

Song: Sour Smoke
If you remember the first time I put these guys on they had a very psych/hard rock/70's prog rock feel to them, but with really ****ty recording and funny effects that made the song more interesting. But this time I have there most recent album, and as you can tell it's certainly clearer than there first yet as you can tell with this song the hard rock jam band feel is still around, with some spacey sounds to go along with it all! The track I provided is all instrumental, and actually most of the songs feel instrumental because after the first couple of minutes on most song he just stops singing, and starts playing amazing music. So if you like something that was just a bit easier to listen to but still had the same feel as there first, then this is one I highly recommend picking up.
Iron Monkey - Our Problem

Song: Bad Year
Well as you may be able to tell, these fellas are a sludge band. I remember them being quoted as being the "Dirtiest" sludge band out there, which I guess you could agree with but the sound is still so heavy! I actually picked up there box set that they released after the lead singer died, which had there only two album this being the second. Also fun fact about the album cover, it actually folds out into a really big poster that's pretty graphic on some levels. So if you liked weedeater from one of my previous blogs, and wanted something with different vocals than good thing I'm here to show you this band. Except I think I like weedeater a bit more, but that's just because me and Iron Monkey haven't spent as much time together. I'd actually say that this album is better than their first because it just has a better more original sound, their first one certainly had sabbath riffs but it felt like they were just copying some of them and not thinking up there own ideas. But with this album they really went the extra mile on some of the songs, also this album has a ton of long ass songs mixed in with some normal 3 min length ones.
Pagan Altar - Mythical and Magical

Song: The Cry of the Banshee
I'm surprised I've kept this band from you guys so long, especially since me being a doom fan this has just been a treat that I've been keeping from you for far too long. This album isn't my favorite by them I'm saving that for the next blog, but to say the truth all there albums are spectacular and I still can't get over how stunning and not well known they are. There doom at it's most traditional, which makes me just jump for joy! I felt such an amazing surge of excitement the first time I heard this album, it just really made me realize how amazing classic doom metal is and can be! Oh and the vocals are quite memorable, if not that then they are certainly different! So if you can even find this album any where pick it up without even thinking, it's just that amazing to me at least or to any doom fan. The riffs also just tear right through you with there sheer originality and fun yet dark sound at the same time, with the bass and drums not being as high in the mix but still there to feel important to the whole sound of the album.
Well I hope you guys enjoyed this, I loved making it and if you are interested my gamertag is The Bert Ram on XBL I'd love to play if anyone wants to. So see ya later my fellow music lovers. Also sorry about not posting the links to past blogs, I'll try to keep up.
DOOMY? PART DEUX!: I finished this 10'er with a doomtastic blast of some of my favorite oldies. And some light pysch to cap it all off. I'd say that this is my second favorite end to one of my 10'ers, with the first being when I made a drone metal one for my 9th all the way back in the beginning.
Yup, we're nearing that all so wonderful time once again! Where I recap my last 10 blogs, and explain a bit why and where some of the ideas in the blog came from. How much fun AM I RIGHT! Anyways let's get this music love-fest going.
Saint Vitus - Born Too Late

Song: Clear Windowpane
This is yet another album that pretty much created more amazing early doom metal, and it also has Wino in it (if your a doom metal fan and don't know who he is then maybe you should just leave). Yes the legendary Wino is fronting this band, and this being one of his first projects makes it one of his best! The guitars and bass on this album also have just a different but familiar feeling to them, which just makes this album's doom so much stronger. Many of the songs have lyrics that are just wonderful, this being one of them. There is also a couple of Black Flag covers, because Saint Vitus opened for them a couple times. Yes a doom metal band for a punk band it seems blasphemous, but it actually turned out good (I saw some live videos on youtube). I'd say at the time this band was around there was also another amazing doom group, and they were Pentagram probably one of my most favorite doom bands ever, right after Reverend Bizarre. I'd say Saint Vitus got more exposure though, since Wino has been in many bands, and always adds a different element that normally makes bands better than they once were. So if you want some amazing old doom, please pick this up I BEG YOU.
Sleep - Holy Mountain

Song: Aquarian
I'm an idiot, I've been a fan of this band for a very long time and the only time I ever mentioned them in all 29 of my favorite albums was talking about there magnum opus or Dopesmoker to me. This album though is stunning! Also recently I learned an interesting fact about this album, this entire album is all demo tracks yup the record company thought it was that good that they just thought "**** it this sound amazing send it out!". Yes it probably would have been better if they recorded the songs more than just a demo, but ya know what this album is now a classic that I will love for years to come. Also Fridi I saw the comments that you made with another person on this video HAHAHA. Anyways yes onto this album, well you can tell it's a "Boulder" doom style and the lyrics are amazing on the song provided, but really on every song they are. No they don't have to do with drugs, but they were certainly on drugs when thinking up the lyrics. The guitar and bass and even the drums, are all amazing and compliment each other so great! I mean a great riff here, followed by an amazing bass interlude could you ask for anything more, and with chris hakius smashing the drums along to it all you have a perfect formula for any metal fan.
Church of Misery - Second Coming

Song: I, Mother******
The Japanese psych doomster's made it back in here, with one of their earlier releases titled The Second Coming. Sorry the song has quite a slow start, so please skip to around 1:10 or 1:00 to get to the good stuff. His vocal style is screamy, but in a good and very different way that makes this band stand out in the sludgy doom market. Also again each song has to do with a serial killer, which is always interesting and seems like an interesting way to make lyrics. The bass and lead guitar really drive this band, while the drums are just their own element. So to me the bass and guitar really drive this record home, with early-sabbathian solos and of course rif***e, with the bass plodding along better than most doom bands. You can also very easily see the psych influences all over, with the weird sounds and feedback sometimes taking over for a bit at some parts in the song. So if you like doom, then here is yet another album that you may want to check out!
Dead Meadow - Feathers

Song: Such Hawks, Such Hounds
If you can remember I have had these guys in here before, with mixed results but this is my favorite albums. Dead meadow the psych band that likes to play 70's style hard rock with a sometimes light, but most of the time heavy psych influence over their songs. The first thing you'll notice is how the songs just flow so wonderfully, like your riding along a wave or a slide that loops around and around. Another thing that makes this band stick out a bit more, is their singer that sounds lazy while singing yet his singing sometimes makes my mind drift off IN A GOOD WAY! So if you want something that will certainly take you for a ride, to a place you may or may not want to go then please check this one out as well it's amazing psych from now-a-days and you don't get that very often.
Well I hope you found something that you liked, or something that you were waiting for to get in here
. See ya next time g1's, and since I know you all forgot about the old ones I'll post them below again.
This has been TheBertRam, and happy listening g1's also don't worry I'm not going anywhere.

But I did rate 11.
I only read the stuff that was in itallic writing, Becaus I've read all the other, and I didn't feel like reading everything again, especially if I'll have to listen to all 40 songs. (I guess)
I rated it 11 because it was a compilation by my favorite blogger, with commentary.

So true! Also today I got a new CD in the mail, it's one I've been wanting for a while and it was hard to find at least for me. It's pretty much as doomy as you could ever get, it is pure doom no substitutes or "Boulder" rock solos.

Sweet list, man! As a Finnish metalhead I have a lot to relate to here. It's good to see that there are other fans of black and doom metal here as well.

Thanks for being pretty awesome.
Weren't you the metalhead who'd always leave epic comments in the forums on metal related topics? :P
