Guitar Hero: Smash Hits marks the latest installment of the famed rhythm game franchise, and the 4th expansion to the main game overall. Unlike previous expansions to the game, (80s, Aerosmith, & Metallica) Smash Hits’ intention isn’t to focus on the music of one specific artist or time period.

As gamers/advocates of free speech and artistic expression, generally we're quick to get behind a video game when it comes under fire by moral panic groups. That's all well and good, but what gets lost in the equation is not every video game is going to be Mortal Kombat or Grand Theft Auto III. (IE: Controversial, but more than anything good.)
We've had a pretty good track record when it comes to getting behind shocking games that eventually turn out to be masterpieces, but perhaps it's time we took a look back at some of those games and realized that they weren't worth saving.

I play games by Capcom with a power glove strapped on
On any platform, I don't spend my dough on Phat Farm
Video games, I got many to play
Before my life expires; fufill my desires

Music is great.
Video games are great.
By that logic, putting the two together should make for a truly astounding experience, right?

Before anyone starts bugging me about how this has no place on a VIDEO GAME website, there are people who ASKED me to post the 2nd half of this, so here it is.
Also, please go read my first post on this issue before reading this:
Enclosed below is a list of the 20 Absolute Worst of the 40 Bad Cover Songs I have profiled. I must warn you, that as the numbers get lower we only sink deeper and deeper into the depths of Bad Cover Song oblivion.

I won't mince words. 2008 was a GREAT year for music, with some truly great albums being released nearly every second. I'd be loathe to say that the industry has gotten over it's slump of worshipping complete drivel though, since so many critics and consumers still seem content to laud mediocrity by the likes of Jack Johnson, Katy Perry, and Lil Wayne. (Tha Carter III is severely overrated! I am not the only one who thinks this!)
"After being lauded for his erudite review of Braid, the young rapper went on to issue a blanket challenge to all Xbox 360 owners in October, challenging them to take him on in Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, GTA 4 or Gears of War. The rest, as they say, is now history. From an interview on Complex.com:"

A bit of context first: I originally posted this elsewhere as two seperate lists. The first one was just a simple top 20 list of bad covers, but a lot of people thought I left a lot of awful ones out, and encouraged me to write a second one.
I did.
Debate raged on as ever, as people looked at my list, and suggested that certain ones on my 2nd list belonged on the first list. So what I've done is I've given my two lists another look-over, and combined them into one complete list, to be posted in two parts.

NOTE: Unlike my previous articles posted here, this is NOT a video game top-list. This instead deals with music. It may seem a bit out of place to post a music article on a video game website, but I'd like to think that there's nothing wrong with my posting this. Most video gamers are fans of music anyway, so I figure it's all good. (As the success of games like Rock Band, Guitar Hero, Frequency, and Audiosurf can attest.)

The release date for Sonic Unleashed, the latest adventure of video game's only blue, spiny, hyper-kinetic mammal is but a few days away, and Sonic fans have their hopes high that this could be the return-to-form that Sega had been hyping over and over. Let me address those Sonic fans directly for one moment:

Is this list self-indulgent? Probably, but try not to think about it THAT way. Instead think of it as my take on the heroes of video game lore...or rather, my attempt to bring them down several pegs.
I'm going to try to ignore the games of their origin, and instead judge them on their depth of character, and just how likeable a protagonist they actually are. Why? Because I'm a hyper-literate smug bastard, that's why!

Sure.
There will always be a place in the cold dark recesses of my caffeine-addled heart for the classic video game systems of the late 80s to mid-90s. Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Genesis, Neo Geo, even Turbo Grafx. But for what my money’s worth, much of my childhood nostalgia can be found no farther than the very computer I’m typing on.

Video games and movies have had a rather sordid history together. On the one hand there’s movies that are adapted from video games, which have a consistent track record of being completely terrible, and bearing precious little resemblance to the game they’re based upon. (Although personally I thought that casting Psychobilly musician Mojo Nixon as Toad in the Super Mario Brothers movie was pretty neat.)

The 10 Best Weapons In Video Games
While I always try to do something different with my random myriad top-ten lists I love making so much, sometimes there are certain topics you just HAVE to get out of your system. Video Game Weapons being one of them, of course. After all, the protagonist of a game is only as good as the capabilities and equipment they have at their disposal.
I set a few guidelines for myself in coming up with entries for my list:

n my research across the vast internet/web/tubes/blag I have discoverd many things, but it wasn't until I did some real deep digging in a torrent site until I found this.
An abandoned soundtrack to what would have been the greatest Mega Man game ever to grace the original Nintendo, with a deep storyline, dialogue between characters, and a bunch of other things that later would have become standards to the series.

Made as a response to ScrewAttack's best FPS's list, (Which frankly I feel missed a LOT of games, but that's best left for another list.) I spend a free weekend digging up demos, abandonwares, and roms of many FPS games to find out which ones wouldn't have gone on Stuttering Craig's list if you bribed him. (Well...MAYBE if you bribed him. I dunno.)

In pretty much any cultural medium you can think of there's always one guy that's been in their respective field way longer than they ought to have been, to the point that anything they do has become tiresome and frankly a little embarassing. Be it Sports (Roger Clemens), Movies (Burt Reynolds), or life in general. (Dick Clark, who against all odds, refuses to die.) This of course is just as true in the world of video game franchises.
Listed here are 10 of those franchises. Games that lost that spark a while ago, and tend only to offer more of the same, or nothing like the original.
