great to finally have sidescrollers back in business amongst the disappointments of this E3. I think whoever set up the recording for it needs to turn the recording volume up, it was reeeaaallly quite, i had to turn everything on my system up to max to hear it.
And next to the nintendo rant, i see some of you are rather disappointed with Craigs rant, and to a certain extent totally wrong. But the fact remains that he is indeed right, Nintendo was a massive insult and disappointment. E3 is nolonger about hanging out an having fun as it used to be, they created e for all or w/e bs it is now. E3 is not a presentation event when u display your companies new products and inivations to the hardcore, technology enthusiast gamers. which Nintendo EPICALLY FAILED to appease. There is a time and place somewhere to display what they did, and E3 is not it. People who come to E3 want what Craig stated, the icons Nintendo has, up till now, stood for; Mario, Zelda, Kid Icarus, ect. thats what Nintendo fans AT E3 want and Nintendo did not deliver this to their audience, YES they have a growing audience of minorities, older people, youngsters, but the vast majority of these consumers have never even heard of E3, i understand who they are trying to target, but not at E3.

I enjoyed the SA E3 coverage but I missed having Sidescrollers around. Glad that it's back to normal around there now. I like to end my Tuesdays or start my Wednesdays with sidescrollers.
I really tried to keep liking screwattack and their opinions, but with this sidescroller I really don't anymore. I'm sorry but Craig's Nintendo rant was just ridiculously. I know there's no Zelda, no Mario, no Metroid! I grew up with Nintendo and I can admit it when they come out with some crap "like Wii Music" but still I mean come on give Nintendo a break! You know Mario Galaxy hasn't been out for that long, and it takes a long time to make a new game. I wasn't disappointed with Nintendo at E3 because I'm to busy playing by old Wii games to care what's coming out. You know E3 isn't the big deal it once was, so to expect something good out of anyone.. don't look for it at E3. Sorry if I seem angry but I'm tired of these people complaining all week about an event that isn't that important.

Craig is right though, reggie and the rest of nintendo really just decided to sit back and (not even tease the entire industry with hints of anything WORTH buying) wave the cash they've earned in our faces.
I agree with you, RetroGameAddict. They also hinted that a new Pikmin, Zelda and Mario games are under development. What else can we ask for? Nintendo takes time to release things, because they want it perfect.
Until we get core games from Nintendo, there are plenty coming from other developers, such as: MadWorld, The Conduit, Dead Rising Wii, Sonic Unleashed... Seems to me like it's a great time to own a Wii.
You're completely right, there are a hole lot of great games from other developers coming out that I as a hardcore Nintendo fan am looking forward to. Also Reggie from Nintendo said they don't want to announce games until they public can play them which shows they put a lot of time and care into their games. I actually think Animal Crossing "City Folk" was a big enough announcement for Nintendo this year. Look at all the great games there already are on the Wii. It's just not realistic to expect more Mario's and Zelda's so soon. I mean just the other day I started a new record on Mario Galaxy. Why can't people just enjoy the games on the Wii right now?

I don't know what people really expect Nintendo to do besides what they've been doing these past few years - MAKE MONEY!!! It's been obvious for years now that Nintendo is the Disney of the gaming world and it's completely in their own interest to come out with yet another crop of family-fun junk like the Wii Music. As much as I'd like to see a new Kid Icarus or Zelda, it's pretty obvious that those things won't garner as many impulse buys from idiotic consumers, certainly not as much as a new toy like the Wii Fit.
I've become accustomed to the idea that Nintendo will never find its way back to (and won't need to) the context of the SNES days, when they had an amazing amount of good 3rd party support and no real threat from the competition. With Sony and Microsoft around and clearly kicking their balls in with hardcore games, it's obvious that they will never stop alienating their golden-age fan base with sillier controllers and peripherals aimed at the ignorance of the non-gamer market. That's their meal ticket and profit is something that will never go out of style. Anyone with grand expectations that Nintendo will do a 180 and start producing games with the creative zaniness of the original Metroid, Kid Icarus, and Startropics better not hold their breath. The people who promote for Nintendo don't even act like people who play games. They look like they should be doing Kia commercials and Blackberry ads.
I own more games for the wii myself right now than my PS3. Not quite as much as my 360, but I AM enjoying my Wii right now. A lot of us are. A lot of us, the core audience, want to know how we're going to enjoy the system in the future, and there was absolutely NONE of that at the Nintendo Press Conference.
I'm well aware that Nintendo needs to make money, and this is what's making them money, but what they failed to understand is this is E3. NO ONE whose going to buy these products are in the audience at E3. It's game journalist in the live audience, and core gamers watching it live from the internet and TV. They don't care about Wii Sports Resort or WiiMusic. It's not going to move more products; the people who are going to mindlessly spend their money on that shit didn't even see it.
I also understand that the new Mario, Zelda and MEtroid games are way too early in development to have anything to show. But there's still plenty of stuff that COULD Have been showed, but it wasn't there. Where was Wario Land: Shake it!, Which looks to be the best 2D Platformer since Yoshi's Island? Where was Pokemon Platinum? Fatal Frame 4? Dead Rising: Chop Til You Drop? There were PLENTY of titles they could have talked about in their stead, shit we DO care about, even if there were no big announcements to be made.
I've been a big Nintendo fan for as long as I can remember. I've smacked the people who have said Nintendo was a 'kiddy' system, which has remained a baseless argument since the N64 era. So to see the E3 press conference, where they more or less showed themselves to be this characture that had long since been a myth created by jade Sony fanboys, at a conference made up SOLELY of the 'core' audience, yes, it feels very much insulting.
There's nothing wrong in having a little faith in a company. Since I'm a rather unbias gamer, I understand that Nintendo DOES have things that weren't shown at that conference to keep me excited. But if you don't think that this press conference was a mistake, a miscalculation on the part of Nintendo's marketing department, then you are demonstratively wrong. That, or just extremely blissfully ignorant. Which is fine, I'm sure you'll be happy at Aunt Cammy's house. I'm sure she has plenty of slides from her snow boarding vacation to show you.

I'm a killer midfielder. I'm willing to be the guy who has to run all around the entire field to chase down the ball. I've had plenty of practice doing that while playing in an actual indoor soccer league.:P
I'm so glad that a site that's more for the fans has come out and called out Nintendo's e3 for what it was, a big stinking pile of crap. Even if you take into consideration Nintendo wasn't going to show anything big at e3, WHAT they showed sucked. And I'm glad to hear people giving honest opinions about Wii Music instead of kissing Nintendo's rear. Wii Music looked stupid to me 2 years ago, and it looks even dumber now. Listening to Craig describe it, I wouldn't give $10 for it.
I've defended the Wii pretty much and held out for a while, but I'm now to the point of not doing that anymore. This e3 showing, plus the Wired.com interview that confirms that THIS is all Nintendo is offering for the Holidays, proves to me that Nintendo is focused on the "casual" crowd. Which works now...long term I think will be a mistake. The "casuals" they are going after will move on.
At this point I say what I've held off saying, but the Wii to me is about 85% fad. If it weren't for the handful of great games for it, I'd totally throw it under the bus, but games like Galaxy and Brawl are its only redeeming factors. Even the VC sucks now and WiiWare has turned into the same as Wii games, a few good ones amid a sea of crap.

I Let my younger cousin borrow Batman Returns for the SNES, and he borrowed it all the game, box, slip cover, and manual...he has it for about a month and when he returns it all i get is the game...and he denies ever getting the rest, now no one borrows my games.(Unless i really trust you)

I guess that I'm not the only one that had problems hearing it. I would comment more about the show but I couldn't hear it too well and could only turn it up so loud.
Just wanted to chip in with the sound it was really quiet, some more then others. Looks like the monkeys have been at play in your studio whilst you were at E3.
Was impossible to hear on my iPod had to wait till I got home to listen to it, used my MP3player to boost the gain made the quality crappy but only way I could hear.
it's really long, but worth it and it is defintly worth reading if you want the whole truth about what nintendo is doing and how it affects the industry at large
(casual gamers are nothing 'new' BTW, they've been talked about in the industry for some time.)

There's definitely a problem with the low volume. I had to amplify the sound in Audacity before I could listen, but that just made the intermissions really loud.

everyone talked away from the mics but cory you never speak directly to it. I could hardly hear anyone and it annoys me. Please fix this for the next podcast
Hopefully they'll have the issue sorted out for next week. Had my MP3 volume at max (as I always do to listen to sidescrollers) but this time I couldn't listen to the show during my normal commute. The sound was simply drown out by my surroundings.
With the sound, I mean. The first Sidescrollers I haven't listened to entirely, since I really got annoyed straining my ears trying to understand what was being whispered

After all the hub-bub from last week, at least another fun show is here. Might say its our "saving grace". Its not an epic week, its an "ok week". But getting over the obstacles, at least some positive things to take from the show. (Especially the E3 skits, the SA crew put together)

i have my earphones and winamp at full volume and i can barely hear anything ... am i the only one with this problem?
(yes, my earphones are good ones and work ok. i was listening music before sidescrollers)

There's definitely a problem with the low volume. I had to amplify the sound in Audacity before I could listen, but that just made the intermissions really loud.

everyone talked away from the mics but cory you never speak directly to it. I could hardly hear anyone and it annoys me. Please fix this for the next podcast
Yeah unfortunately the sound was off.
Hopefully they'll have the issue sorted out for next week. Had my MP3 volume at max (as I always do to listen to sidescrollers) but this time I couldn't listen to the show during my normal commute. The sound was simply drown out by my surroundings.

After all the hub-bub from last week, at least another fun show is here. Might say its our "saving grace". Its not an epic week, its an "ok week". But getting over the obstacles, at least some positive things to take from the show. (Especially the E3 skits, the SA crew put together)
