Sidescrollers is alright. Lets not forget 1up Yours, Player One, Retronauts, and the Game Heroes. They provide far more substance. This is more or less, the life and times of Craig and crew. Which is totally fine, but do become podcast agnostic.
Psh, Sony's "10 year PS3 life-cycle" is such a bag of hot air. It's just them giving themselves a hand"shake." They've got the best console hardware... for now. PC hardware has already surpassed the PS3. Do they really want 5 years of being the ugliest, most underpowered console after they pitched their console's strength as it being a powerhouse? 6 when you compare it to PC?
It's already more than 1.5 years into its life cycle; it's a lot closer to 2 years.
Craig is right about Sony and analysts declaring PS3 the winner... when its sales finally pick up in a year or two due to market saturation.
The next console life cycle is pretty far off, but the next handheld life cycle is a year or two away.
I think the PS3 is the GameCube of this generation... or perhaps comparing it to Dreamcast really is more accurate, especially considering there are already Blu-ray burners (I have one). It'd be a nail in the coffin if piracy became as prevalent as in the DreamCast, but with the internet connectivity that seems unlikely.

This is the most pessimistic, falsified, short sighted post I've read in a long time. Its riddled with opinion, fanboyism, and imbecilic mantra. Congratulations.
If you knew anything about sales, you'd see the PS3 is quickly catching up to the 360. I could dissect your post and refute every single point, but why bother, "your road, your journey" is going to take you to a pothole.
I agree with Destin. The dreamcast statement holds no weight. The Dreamcast lost because all developer support abandoned it. Last time I checked PS3 sales are doing just fine, games are selling in multi-million numbers, it has strong developer support, and there is a growing community worldwide.
No one this generation is going to "lose." Whats with the "bluray" burner statement? You do realize one SPE is dedicated to protecting the system? Are you trying to say you condone illegal piracy? Fucking piece of shit. People can already burn games on the 360 and the Wii - I bet your one of them.
i've never heard of anyone pirating games on the wii and 360, unless they do it the same way they did with the xbox
either way i've never heard of anyone doing it

Ahahaha. Oh my, thanks for reminding me of why I upgraded my PC. Sony fanboys take soooo much offense when someone states their hardware isn't the best anymore, it's just so much fun.
You're right, I am a fanboy. I never said a single positive thing about either Nintendo or Microsoft in my post, so you just assumed I was a fanboy because I downplayed Sony's position. Now that's pessimistic, falsified, and short-sighted. So go ahead, guess, and tell me why you think that.
You really are the classic internet troll, man. Trying feebly to use something completely unrelated ("my road, my journey") in an argument against me. Why don't I just point out how self-centered your name appears to be: "Thuway." Now why don't you go re-evaluate your argument style.
Exactly how old were you when Dreamcast was out? 10? 12? If you actually were more aware of the industry at that time, you'd know that developers didn't support the Dreamcast because piracy was ridiculously common. I had several friends with a Dreamcast and maybe 5 legal games and 30 illegal ones. Piracy killed the Dreamcast.
I didn't say the PS3 was going to lose. Why would you put it in quotes if I never said it? Ooo one SPE, so scary. And no, I've never used a burned game in my entire life, nor burned a game. In fact this is my first burner and I haven't even used it yet. So you called me a "&%@(ing piece of @*!~" for what? (See, that's what quotation marks are for: quoting people) You'd do better to stop pointing fingers and making up imaginary facts in your mind, then responding to them as if they were real.
For another thing, flaming and cussing are not what this reply page are for. I just hope you've learned something from this exchange.

My road, my journey
Yes, the PS3s are outselling XBox360s right now. But there is still a LOT of catching up to do. I really didn't say much about sales figures, though.
Yes, you did misread in some parts. I compared the PS3 to the Dreamcast because:
1) They both were ahead of their time technologically. When the Dreamcast came out, it was hard to believe there was already a 128-bit system. It was hard to believe the stats of Sony's PS3 when it came out, too.
2) They both had really slow starts in terms of sales. From memory, the Dreamcast also had a slow start in terms of good games as well, just like the PS3. But I could be mistaken about that.
3) The Dreamcast was in last place in its console war (the second half of the 32/64-bit era), and the PS3 is in last place now.
No, I said: "It'd be a nail in the coffin if piracy became as prevalent as in the DreamCast, but with the internet connectivity that seems unlikely." If piracy was as bad on the PS3 as it was on the DreamCast, yes it would be the end. It would be almost enough to kill off any console, but the PS3 is in no position to take a hit like that. And considering the economy and the price of getting set up with a PS3, the motivation is there for pirates more than any other system. IF it happens, it'll end the PS3. But it probably won't because of the internet connectivity. I mentioned that Blu-Ray burners already exist because there are probably still a lot of people who don't know that.
PS3 tech isn't obsolete, it's very good for consoles. But that's right now. Sony wants a 10 year life cycle. That's twice as long as a traditional life cycle. It'd be like N64 competing against XBox. N64 was the graphical king in terms of rendering (not in terms of storing pre-rendered cutscenes) when it came out, but to say it can compete against an XBox, GameCube, or even a PS2 or DreamCast is bogus and wishful thinking. Yes, Nintendo and Sony both want this generation to go on longer than normal (Sony because they're overestimating their hardware specs, and Nintendo because they're trying to saturate a larger traditionally non-gamer market), but Microsoft doesn't. And XBox360 launched a year earlier than the other two to begin with. Even if Microsoft takes 6 or 7 years for this cycle instead of 5, they'll still release a console that blows a PS3 out of the water almost an entire generation before the PS4 is out.
The PS3 cannot maintain a 10 year life cycle. And even if Microsoft fails and Nintendo also goes for a 10 year life cycle, the lack of hardware improvement and the increase of over-all tech-saavyness in our society would actually be enough to drive gamers to PCs. Yeah, if console developers try for a 10-year life cycle, this is going to be a strange, strange world. If you had a choice between Doom and Halo, which would you play? That's the kind of gap Sony says they can deal with.
Not to mention, it's not all about hardware stats. If the PS3 is going to be out 10 years, and they keep on bringing out different system models at this rate, there will be ~20 system models by the time they're done. That is... very stupid. People get confused at the 3 models of XBox360, can you imagine talking about 20 models, even if only 4 were out recently? "Oh yeah, the 20 and 60 are fully compatible, the 80 is about 95% compatible, and the 40 isn't compatible at all. The 100 and 120 will probably not be compatible, but..." Confusing, and that's just one feature. The average consumer is swamped by that.
And what about up-coming technologies. In five or six more years, electronics might have evolve completely. Research into quantum, optical, and even DNA computing has been going on for years. Holograms have also existed for years. 3D viewing/goggles has existed on the PC market for years as well (my friend has had one for over a year, but I'm not sure why... she barely does PC gaming, and only just recently). 3D interfaces are about to become a reality, the Wii might even be able to pull it off by the end of this generation. 3D head tracking is already a reality; I have it installed on my computer. Heck, there are even entirely new kinds of materials being made now that weren't possible before! Many of these technologies could be ready for the market in 3 or 4 years and could completely change the industry.
Look how many technologies Sony will be late to the party on if it waits another 8.25 years to release an update. Could they do one, or a few on the PS3? Maybe. Head tracking for instance. But with all the variance between the different models of PS3s, accessories really become iffy business. For instance, the 40 gig has half as many USB ports as the 80 or 60. If developers try to make a game that uses an accessory which uses the USB port, they'll have their marketing work cut out for them. And on the PS3, they'll be coming up with awkward work-arounds for years.

My road, my journey
In this podcast Destin pretty much radiated with fanboyism declaring superior technology, developer issues with making games, and shunning the dreamcast analogy when at WORST it's a fair analogy.
Fact of the matter is none of these guys replying has any more idea than any other person replying on how sales are going, and none of them have the ability of a clairvoyant to look into the future and predict the out come of an insignificant console war.
About the only thing said during the podcast about Sony that should have been a wake up call to most is 'there are no good games coming out for it this year'. What makes a console? Games.
My ps3 plays blueray dvd's, my wii collects dust with a copy of brawl next to it collecting dust, and my 360 gets played with. That's pretty much the only analysis I need.
Didn't they SAY the PS3 was selling? They actually made it sound like it was doing quite well despite still being in third place, which is the truth.
Honestly, comparing it to the Dreamcast is a compliment, as it was a great system that had an unfortunate set of unlucky breaks that ultimately set up it's demise.
The best comparison I've seen to the PS3 (And you're going to hate me for this one) is to the N64: A lot of great hardware, but too much for it's own good, causing it to be a pain in the ass to develop for, much like a certain 7 core processor. Also, Nintendo was so cocky they made some very bad business decisions, alienating a lot of third party support, which pretty much sums up Sony during the first year, year and a half of the PS3's life cycle. Thankfully, they caught on.
And don't spin this like I'm a 360 fanboy, cause I've established with you before that I most certainly am not. Hell, I was called a PS3 fanboy by someone else in the same thread.
Also, when is someone going to ban Thuway? He's obviously not a G1 since he does nothing but criticize SA and constantly starts fights with the community? He's apparently made it his life goal.

Look everyone it's mr.pot his kettle is black. The dreamcast lost because sony paid blockbuster and retailers to push the PS2. It also lost because of no DVD support. If you have one illegal rom, mp3, program, and you're really a liar if you say you don't, then you are just as big a what did you say "piece of shit" not my words but yours. By the way nice way to make your point. You do name callers proud.

The dreamcast was the first console to offer online play but it was ahead of its time back in the dial-up era before broadband caught on. The ps3 is offering that blu ray player but dvds are more popular right now. Both systems tried to sell a new idea but failed since they happened when people were transitioning from one format to another.

I know it's not that big of a deal but it kind of bothers me that three people on screwattack are barely starting to play street fighter. I miss the old days where everyone knew all the old games and Craig didn't have to explain things. I'm younger then all of them but I still grew up on classic games. Don't think I'm saying something bad about the two newer people, because I'm not. I'm just saying I wish the were more familiar with the games.
For this reason I found myself playing the unpopular games that only cost a quarter to play. That and beat em ups, so you only had to beat the computer, not someone else who spend too much time at an arcade :D

Sidescrollers never disappoints (well, maybe once in a while hehe) but I found this one particularly entertaining from recent memory. Lots of neat discussions and personal info. Kudos.
It was one of my favorite podcasts from SA in a while. I'm not saying the previous ones were bad, far from it, they were good.
This one is my favorite in a while because there were some deep video game conversations. Nothing fulfills my inner nerd more. It was awesome to hear some in-depth talk and opinions on a few VG topics.
Loved the Street Fighter talk. Ahh...I wanna fight these guys in Street Fighter now. Just name the game: Alpha, 3rd Strike, Hyper Fighting, *pulls out powerglove Lucas style* I've played them all.
The person I want to play the most is Craig. I will not lose.
sweet they answered my question
i was play street fighter Genre
way before i became a G1 but its good
that people are starting to play it more
cuz hardly before you couldn't find no one
to play and it sucked
I can relate to Craig, I used to call it the "Ha-dak-dak-douken", but when I finally checked out the Arcade moves list, i found out that it that the original Japanese name of it was "tatsumaki senpuukyaku" meaning "tornado whirlwind foot". But Huricane Kick sounds alright too.

Also, when is someone going to ban Thuway? He's obviously not a G1 since he does nothing but criticize SA and constantly starts fights with the community? He's apparently made it his life goal.
Look everyone it's mr.pot
Look everyone it's mr.pot his kettle is black. The dreamcast lost because sony paid blockbuster and retailers to push the PS2. It also lost because of no DVD support. If you have one illegal rom, mp3, program, and you're really a liar if you say you don't, then you are just as big a what did you say "piece of shit" not my words but yours. By the way nice way to make your point. You do name callers proud.
too who are you adressing
too who are you adressing this too?

Thuway
Thuway
The reference was made
The reference was made because he was saying that pirating PS3 games would put the final nail in the coffin. He also said he owned a Bluray burner, as to almost insinuate that he was looking to do it.
Thuway
have you been a naughty g1? Do I have to put you in time out?
ps3 does have something in common w/ dreamcast
The dreamcast was the first console to offer online play but it was ahead of its time back in the dial-up era before broadband caught on. The ps3 is offering that blu ray player but dvds are more popular right now. Both systems tried to sell a new idea but failed since they happened when people were transitioning from one format to another.
Low Kick, kick move hadoken!
it sounds as if Craig has had an orgasm... oh my god!
Corey owns
Man that SF fight between Destin and Corey must have been EPIC!!!
Man I wish I was there mabey I could have owned both of them...

Sweet!
Thanks for posting this so early! It'll give me something to listen to on my plane ride to Florida that leaves in a few hours.
Thanks guys, keep it up!
I know it's not that big of
I know it's not that big of a deal but it kind of bothers me that three people on screwattack are barely starting to play street fighter. I miss the old days where everyone knew all the old games and Craig didn't have to explain things. I'm younger then all of them but I still grew up on classic games. Don't think I'm saying something bad about the two newer people, because I'm not. I'm just saying I wish the were more familiar with the games.
It was weird,
To hear that Destin and Corey didn't have the same experiences. They're about the same age as Craig, after all.
I'm 23, a bit younger than them, and I knew exactly what Craig was talking about.
Dude, it's not very fun when
Dude, it's not very fun when your 12 and the big kids at the arcade beat the piss out of you on street fighter. KI however I dominate at.
Quarter games
For this reason I found myself playing the unpopular games that only cost a quarter to play. That and beat em ups, so you only had to beat the computer, not someone else who spend too much time at an arcade :D

Itunes
When is this going to be avaliable to download on Itunes?
SFII
Strange that nobody at SA played SFII in the past. Jose and Ben I can imagine since they are a bit younger, but destin and corey? I mean, you couldn't miss SFII when it came out! I actually played my SNES version last night, I am gonna download it on Xbox and beat craigs ass :)
Don't get me wrong - I
Don't get me wrong - I played SF II when I was a kid. I really wasn't much into fighters though (and my brother would always wipe the floor with me). I was more of a Mortal Kombat kid than a SF II kid.
What ever happened to Stuttering Craigs FORRRRRRRR
Seems like he never does it anymore.

Everyone at ScrewAttack has
Everyone at ScrewAttack has their own games. We all know a lot about certain games that few of the others know much of. This allows us to collectively have a much wider range of knowledge in the long run, as well as providing a timely and entertaining excuse to share the knowledge.

Sidescrollers never
Sidescrollers never disappoints (well, maybe once in a while hehe) but I found this one particularly entertaining from recent memory. Lots of neat discussions and personal info. Kudos.
Sidescrollers 7/9/08 10/10
It was one of my favorite podcasts from SA in a while. I'm not saying the previous ones were bad, far from it, they were good.
This one is my favorite in a while because there were some deep video game conversations. Nothing fulfills my inner nerd more. It was awesome to hear some in-depth talk and opinions on a few VG topics.
MY FAVORITE GAME OF ALL-TIME
STREET FIGHTER 2 TURBO (HYPER FIGHTING)
I LOVE IT
Loved the Street Fighter
Loved the Street Fighter talk. Ahh...I wanna fight these guys in Street Fighter now. Just name the game: Alpha, 3rd Strike, Hyper Fighting, *pulls out powerglove Lucas style* I've played them all.
The person I want to play the most is Craig. I will not lose.

This week's edition was awesome. *thumbs up* :D
Previous editions were still good, but this one was superior.

Yes,the kids on the mic on 360 or PS2 can be very annoying or the music whores who don't know what a mute button is.UGH!

not retroware.com?
Craig mentioned retroware.com where they have new NES games, but there's nothing at that link. Does anyone know the correct link?
Rad
Heh, I knew the answer was Rad Racer. (Got it)

I reject your reality, and substitute my own.
Most know it as the Huricane Kick...
