It's no secret- Sonic has sucked lately. Recently there's been a little bit of buzz around Sonic's next title on the horizon and at E3 Ben had a chance to check out a demo. Unfortunately they didn't allow cameras inside but that won't stop the ultimate Sonic fanboy of filling you in on his thoughts.
In addition, the SEGA meeting room showed off some other games like the anticipated "MadWorld" and little known about "Bayonetta". With a truly salty lineup, it's no secret that SEGA was one of the hits of E3 2008.

Good to hear about Bayonetta
Good to hear about Bayonetta as well as MadWorld. I'm interested in both titles, since they're... well... new. Not sequels to something that's been going on for decades now. As for Sonic Unleashed, I'm still on the fence on this one. I've had my hopes for Sonic crushed after every title since Sonic Adventure 2. So here's to hoping that Sonic Unleashed is the new ray of light for the Sonic franchise.

Bayonetta sounds so very unique, kinda like Earth Worm Jim unique, but alot more violence...WOOT! =D MadWorld sounds like a sick and twisted kill' em' all game, and I love it, ecspecially how its Wii exclusive. The Wii deserved it after all the crap the third partys give them. Poor Wii... As for Sonic, I guess I was never really a Sonic fan, but not a hater either. This new Sonic sounds.... interesting. I'm not gonna get it but its nice to see them try new things with Sonic and bring back the speed. But by trailers it LOOKS like he moves by himself and you press the right button at the right time. Time Gal anyone? xD

I dunno... the mix of Sonic and Van Helsing sounds... well... not too cool for me, but I can't say it's bad until I play it.
As for Mad World... MAN! I can't wait to get that game, I NEEEEEEED some hardcore action for my Wii, I'm sick of the "casual gaming rulzzzz" policy, I hope someone puts an end to it soon.
(Bayonetta reminded me of Millia Rage from Guilty Gear with all that "hair as a weapon" stuff... sounds pretty cool too by the way)

Did you try No More Heroes? That game is one of the best Wii games out there.

I got that game as soon as I saw it on the store, and yeah, it's a great game... but... it's only ONE game :S what's up with that? RE4 is not even a Wii game... we really need more hardcore titles on the Wii, I think Mad World is just what the doc ordered.

I haven't played a Sonic game since Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast and based on the releases I've heard about on the PS2, Gamecube, Wii and 360, I'm still a bit timid to get back into it.

That a decade ago the rivalry between Sega's Sonic and Nintendo's Mario was such a huge deal and no one would know who would come out alive.
Then you have games like Mario Galaxy being critically acclaimed coming out and Sonic games have been steadily going down the drain.
The last one I liked was Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, minus the Emerald missions. Terrible add on.
Sonic needs a good game soon. It's tilting on the edge of gaming doom and SEGA needs to get their shit together to bring him back to his original fame.

Woot, I was afraid this was gonna be a sony year. Thank god for lil favors :D I'm still gonna be buying a PS3 this year. But glad to see the Wii isn't pushing out all non-franchise crap and there are a few worth while titles out there (looks like it might be going up there with No more heroes!)
Anyway whatever happened to the basics of sonic? That running around collecting rings looked fun...what the hell is up with the were-hog shit? I miss the old days of playing Sonic CD just having a blast listening to good tunes, and going nuts with some fast paced action!

Dimps is developing the Wii version, if I recall. Their track record isn't nearly as bad as Sonic Team's. That's a major reason why people still have hope.

I have a really bad feeling you haven't played or beaten ANY of the Sonic games pre-1999. Now, I can stand people saying that they don't like the series. I'm totally cool with that. What I don't like is when someone says it's was never good. Maybe platforming isn't your thing. If that's the case, why the hell are you even care about Sonic?
Oh yeah. Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic CD. Arguably the best games in the Sonic franchise. Just because there haven't a few good games in the series, (Shadow, 2006, maybe Secret Rings, and maybe Heroes) doesn't mean the franchise has gone to shit.

For platforming I would rather play a Mario game.
For speed I play Wipeout. With weapons. Online.
For adventure I play something like ICO or Zelda.

I understand that the Sonic Adventure games weren't better than their 2D predecessors, but at least they aren't as shitty as every game after their release. Honestly, I'd be perfectly happy with going back to those games type of gameplay and story-telling as opposed to what they've been trying lately. I know Sonic the Hedgehog on PS3 and 360 was an attempt and an epic fail, but I know it's got to be easier to get their old Sonic Adventure formula back together than trying all these new ideas. The only Sonic game I'm looking forward to is the RPG on the DS.

Even though I should know better, I still have a sliver of hope that the daytime levels will deliver on some classic Sonic sidescrolling action. Simple and fast.

I actually started playing Sonic with Adventure 2 since I never had a Genesis, but I went back and played the old ones. This were-hog thing sounds like it could be sort of fun, but it should have really taken a back seat to the Sonic action.
